Les Grands Mythes de l’Histoire de Belgique

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Twenty three historians, under the supervision of Anne Morelli, make mincemeat of 23 myths of Belgian history. All myths that were created to lend support to the meaning of the Belgian Nation are destroyed, one by one.

Can anyone imagine this happening in our part of the world?

What amazes me (I am sure there is a perfectly good explanation) is that only the Greek Cypriot nationalists responded in their normal phobic way. Of course my post had to do with the efforts of the Minister of Education to reform the education system and the cries of the reactioanaries that our "hellenism" is in danger because of the reforms. This reinforces my suspision that this place is not inhabited by Greeks but by barbarians that learnt Greek.

The barbarians are the Turkish invaders and the barbarian who learned Greek is you because we see how you always agree with the other Barbarian invaders. You are a Tourkosporos. Are you not missing your roots in central Asia?

What Turkish Nation? A bunch of nomadic tribesmen trying to get used to staying put and living in mud huts instead of tents?... just because Ataturk said they had to become one nation? And any getting itchy feet get sent over to Cyprus to carry on their nomadic expansionist invasions!

1500s was not nomadic tribes man time, it was Empire time.

Even IF we were tribes man we would still have a lot more than you had going on here.

All barbarians should learn Greek. It is a major civilising influence!

It sounds like the 'Barbarians' of Cyprus, ie.the original Cypriotes/Cypriotes are not in fact Greek, but people who have learnt Greek. Piratis must love you for this.

Piratis is using the word Nation in that sense, not in the sense of a formally set up entity. And from that point of view Cyprus is indeed part of the Greek Nation. Every corner of the island is stamped with Greek presence from throughout history. The Greek Orthodox Church in Cyprus has a longer history as an instution that the Ottoman Empire and Turkey combined. The Ottomans created very little in Cyprus, perhaps because they did not feel it was really theirs, or perhaps because they did not give a shit for the island. Mind you, they built very little in Greece, so maybe that lack of creativity was an Ottoman trait.

For all the talk of realism etc that comes from the Turkish and TC side, there is very little realism in accepting the history and culture of Cyprus.

Perhaps they ethnically cleansed Greece of any Ottoman architecture.

Mind you there are still minates and mosques in northern Greece and Salonika, but what about Athens? Where have they all gone. I know the Venetians blew one up on the Acropolis by gunfire, but what about the others. Or did the nomadic Tuks take them with them. :?

I have been to Athens twice and toured but came across no Ottoman architecture, but remember seeing engravings in books, so they must have existed.

Surely the extremely civilised Greek could not have destroyed the architecture of ancient civilizations could they?
