Just keep telling them that Nicosia is a great place to invest... :D

Hi Bafidis'

I hope it just stays with the 'investment'. What about 'American' spheres of influence vs Russian (populated areas + money).

As they say in Turkish,' Kabak kimin basinda patlayacak'?

rough Trans: on whose head will the pumpkin burst. (who will suffer/benefit?)

Hello Deniz,

I personally don't have any issue with any Russian or American investment in Cyprus, as long as they do not purchase stolen land in the occupied areas. However, it is almost getting pointless arguing this point as I have heard of reports that even GC businesses have done the unthinkable and have bought stolen lands and are even in partnership with casino syndicates.

This is not a moral world and I just don't know how these people can live with themselves. This kind of stuff is unheard of, and I am disgusted. :(

Well, Russians are showing a lot of interest in buying properties in Limassol. Perhaps they know something we don't.
The other day I witnessed a Cypriot agent swearing black and blue that real estate prices in Nicosia increased by a whopping 4% this year alone and that he expects this to only flatten out.

I knew he was talking crap as soon as he mentione Nicosia... :? You would have to be an idiot to buy a property in Nicosia or occupied Cyprus....
Many years ago (10 ?)we went and had a look at the golf complex near paphos and if i could have got the money i could have had a plot there for 15k cypriot,at the time it just looked just to risky of a chance to take, how i regretted that decision, from the feed back i get from my in laws in cyprus they reckon that there never will be a settlement on the problem in the north ? to much money invested.

I suppose the people you talk of are powerful enough to do what they do and would not support any form of settlement bar Partition.

What an uphill struggle we have. What a mess.

I would agree that prices in Nicosia have probably not gone up so far this year, but the demand for properties in Nicosia is not driven by foreign purchasers.

Nicosia being the capital is the location for the head offices of most of the major commercial and financial institutions on the island. It also houses the vast majority of Government/Semi-Government offices. This guarantees that there is always a demand for property here just due to the natural growth of the population which creates additional employment in these sectors.

I am not so sure. The Nicosia and Limasol property markets are both holding out quite well. That is because both of these cities have quite diversified, vibrant economies as opposed to places that are mainly dependent on tourism or the sale of holiday homes.

So, Russians and Israelis see no risks buying property on both sides of the Island?

Got to disagree with you here Paphitis

The demand for decent well located properties in Nicosia is still high

A lot of the apartments in my area are being snapped up by entrepaneurs as investment and let out to foreign businessmen

I admit I cant speak for the more outlying areas but properties within a couple of miles of the centre are still selling well

That's OK champ.

From what I have heard, properties are still being whipped up all over Cyprus. I was just joking around about Nicosia but it still is a town that I could not live in. Property investment is a different matter entirely, and Nicosia is probably the best place for investment.

As a matter of fact, I also plan to buy soon but am holding off due to economic uncertainty and the current exchange rates. I do lack Cypriot market knowledge as I am not in a position to judge clearance rates.

If there are any real estate agents out there, please PM me, as I am on the lookout. Any sound advice from locals would also be appreciated.
