I'm no ologist, but if it is what I think it is then this is the unique characteristics of a certain type within this family who are parasites and lay eggs in the nests of other birds, which amazingly starts sabotaging the eggs of the nest as soon as it comes out of its egg, before it can even see!

The poor parents never notice the difference and go on to raising it as one of their own.
