Turkish Cypriots and the settlers puzzle

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

You should read Cicero's description of Greeks and Greece. Written in 72 BC the comments pretty much reflect the same negative comments about Greeks made in the very forum. We the same faults then as we do now.

For all those that like to idealise ancient Greeks and think they were some kind of special race I have one comment: they owned slaves. Anyone who owns is far from perfect.

...not to mention their views on The Rights of Women. How times have changed ( haven't they? )

I agree the ancient Greeks were not some special "race", mere mortals, and hence subject to mistakes. What is unmistakable though, is that there would have been a concentration of special individuals, of such a state of mind, that something seeded and from that sprung forth an exponential development.

That they owned slaves at some time is neither here nor there, as the thinking at that time would have been a world apart from that of today; besides they would have met tribes of people, by comparison, so lowly in their outlook, compared to the Greeks, that it would not have seemed any more untoward to utilize them as slaves ..... just as we do not think too much of using intelligent Apes like Chimps for cruel experiments, even to this day!

In the Greeks favour, regarding slavery, was that they treated them relatively well, some even allowed an education (e.g. like the slave mistress of Alexander the Great). To crown it all they were the first to give up slavery; thus making it even more inexcusable that thousands of years later, those calling themselves children of the Renaissance, still saw fit to enslave 10 million Africans.

True, the Greeks, in the form of the Byzantines, gave up slavery first, but by then they were a much different culture. As far as I recall the Byzantines abolished slavery in 1066, same year the Normans enslaved the Anglosaxons and serfdom was entrenched in Britain.

Re slavery in general, one cannot be a true democrat if one owns slaves. That the surrounding tribes were inferior to the ancient Greeks is no excuse. They also took slaves from defeated and comparatively advanced enemies.

Not all ancient Greeks suppressed their womenfolk. In Sparta women ranked equal to men and took part in games naked, just like the men. This participation shocked Athenian visitors to Sparta.

These days it is considered politcally incorrect to study ancient Sparta. Ancient Athens is the civilisation considered fit for study. But the pinko liberals who admire Athens forget that the only Greek city state that refused to participate in Alexander's march to the east were the Spartans. Usually the same pinkos condemn Alexander for being a militarist.

Am I in a Greek History lesson or Cyprus Problem ? Some Greeks just use everything they can to insult another race and I am quite sure If I call them racist they will attack back and call me racists. So I will not call them racists. I was trying to find where all this hatred is coming from other than ( you invaded the island twice and bla bla ) becasue I do not stereotype all GCs most of them are quite sensible and informative when you discuss with them but some others just shows hatred in every single post no matter what the topic is so I will let them know:
People who hate their own nature can respect themselves only if they can direct their hatred outward

So bring it on I am your target today

It's easy to demand "Peace" once you've stolen and looted all you want, and now wish to protect against having to return the booty ....

Well you won't have peace. We shall make as much noise as necessary, until the whole of Cyprus is FREE and truly at peace!
