It would be also logical to argue that the most powerful one was the most expansionist thus the one behaved barbaric for a longer time. Still there is a perfect correlation between the historical era, power of the empire, enmity between the empires, passion to be the strongest, rule the world etc but not the so-called genes of barbarism...
