The Cyprus Peace Platform has called for a joint activity of Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot workers for the celebration of the 1st May Workers’ Day.
The Platform calls out to all organizations both in North and South Cyprus which support democracy and peace, to help realizing this goal.
A statement was read out by the term-spokesman of the Platform Tevfik Yoldas from the trade union DAU-BIR-SEN, who expressed the desire towards celebrating the Workers’ Day with the high joint participation of all peoples of Cyprus, no matter what cultural and religious backgrounds they have.
Mr Yoldas said the Cyprus Peace Platform aims to organize a joint celebration activity at the Taksim Stadium in the UN-controlled buffer zone on the 1st of May.
The Platform believes in the importance of joint actions to be taken by Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot workers in the fight against capitalism and struggle for the reunification of Cyprus.
Platform representatives will hold a meeting with related organizations in both sides of the island in the coming days, to prepare the groundwork for the 1st May celebration.
They have already met with representatives of the Greek Cypriot trade union PEO.
