While we suffer from waterlessness more and more each day, remedy is to come with a project which will allow Turkey to make water transfer to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
The project is expected to be completed in a near future.
With the completion of the project, Turkey will be able to carry water of 70 million cubic meters, to the TRNC through pipes.
According to the information received from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, pipes to be placed under Turkey’s Toros Mountains will bring water to the TRNC land.
The TRNC leg of the project, both on the ground and under water, has already been completed.
The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Mustafa Gokmen informed that the water to be transferred from Turkey can be used for drinking as well as for agricultural activities.
Mr Gokmen said that the vast interior plain of Mesarya will be made available for irrigated agriculture, which will turn the region into a green plain.
`The TRNC’s water problem will probably come to an end with this project and this can even help to the solution of the Cyprus problem` Gokmen added.
