Property Rights Not Negotiable says Pres X

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Property Rights Not Negotiable says Pres X

Postby bill cobbett » Wed Feb 25, 2009 7:33 pm

Well after the suspension of the "negotiations" of property in the talks a few days ago, the Cy Mail reports that Pres X has made it clear that the the property rights of legal owners are not negotiable.

Congrats Mr Pres!

The phrase "sine qua non" that Pres X uses below means " an essential condition" or "an indipensable thing". Dunno about his English but his Latin is certainly improving

Looks like Pres X has acknowledged the first of the really real realities on the ground, legal owners are legal owners.

........

Refugees’ right of return not negotiable
PRESIDENT Demetris Christofias yesterday said that the Greek Cypriot side expected the Turkish Cypriot side to respect the right of the refugees to decide what to do with their own properties.

Christofias said this in a lecture he was giving on the future of the Cypriot-Serbian relations at the faculty of Political Science of the University of Belgrade in Serbia. He referred to the direct talks for a Cyprus settlement and the issue of properties, noting that ''our position is clear, the rights of the displaced to their properties is sine qua non.''

''These rights are safeguarded through international and European treaties, international law and the decisions of international courts of law. We are defending this principle and we expect the Turkish Cypriot community to respect, in its proper dimension, the right of the legal owners of property to decide if they wish to resettle in their property, exchange it for another property or get compensation,'' he pointed out.

President Christofias said it has been clarified with Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat that the basis of a solution will provide for a bizonal bicommunal federation with a single citizenship, sovereignty and international identity, with political equality, as set out in UN resolutions. Turkey, he noted, wants the creation of two states in Cyprus.

Christofias also met Serbian PM Mirko Cvetkovic yesterday and addressed the Cyprus - Serbia business forum organised by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce in the presence of businesspeople from Serbia as well as a delegation of the Cypriot Chamber of Commerce and Industry(KEVE) headed by its President Manthos Mavrommatis.

Christofias yesterday concluded his two-day visit to Serbia .He was accompanied by the ministers of Foreign Affairs Marcos Kyprianou and Commerce Antonis Paschalides.

President Christofias hopes Turkish Cypriots will respect rights of refugees

President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias said on Tuesday that the Greek Cypriot side expects the Turkish Cypriot side to respect the right of the refugees to decide what to do with their own properties.

President Christofias, who was giving a lecture at the Political Science Department of the Belgrade University, referred to the direct talks for a Cyprus settlement and the issue of properties, noting that ''our position is clear, the rights of the displaced to their properties is sine qua non.''

It seems it wasn't Pres X but Christofias himself.

Milti, please write an e-mail to the owners of thecypriot.com and tell them change their vision and mission. Their current vision/mission is connecting Greek Cypriots around the world.

So, Pres X has no loss votes of refugees X? Ok, let them decide... Really, why don't we have a common establishment for refugees of 2 communities like we have a common establishment for missing persons of 2 communities. We r going siga siga? Maybe next year, civil initiatives with instructions of US sponsored NGOs can establish a common office and begin solving the property issue, siga siga... no? Why? Kyrenia, Famagusta, Karpasia?

AVCI: TURKISH CYPRIOT SIDE RESPECTS TO PROPERTY RIGHTS

Deputy-Prime Minister – Foreign Minister Turgay Avci has criticized the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias for his recent statement on the Property Issue – which is being discussed by the two leaders in Cyprus as part of the full-fledged negotiations.

Calling Christofias’ remarks an `unfortunate statement, Mr Avci said that the Greek Cypriot Leader has maintained his uncompromising attitude by referring `the right to return` as a sine qua non.

The Minister complained that the aim of the Greek Cypriot Side was not to negotiate a settlement to the Cyprus problem on the basis of UN parameters and political equality but to impose a pro-Greek Cypriot solution to the problem through fait accomplis out of the negotiation table.

He stated that the Turkish Cypriot Side respected the property rights by establishing the Immovable Property Commission – which is respected by the European Court of Human Rights.

He noted that the Commission has been hearing property claims by Greek Cypriots for their properties in the North and bringing solutions through compensation, exchange and restitution.

Complaining that the Greek Cypriot Administration has been trying to prevent their citizens from applying to the Commission, Mr Avci reminded that some Turkish Cypriot properties in the South were expropriated without compensation and the restitution of the rest was delayed after a solution.

`It is clear that the side which is disrespectful to the property rights is the Greek Cypriot Administration`, he said, but stressed that the Turkish Cypriot Side would maintain its determination towards bringing an urgent solution to the Cyprus problem in spite of the Greek Cypriot Side’s intransigent policies.

That’s a strange one. If its not negotiable, why is it one of the chapters?
Mr X will have to negotiate. What ever figure they come up with I am sure will work out fine, cause I can't believe that everyone will want to go back. How many will want to lose their jobs in Baf or Limasol and move north?
