Mindful of the Helios crash which ended the life of so many 'zavallis', they were extremely lucky with the few fatalities that occured.

Yes, looking at pics of the wreckage, the large number of survivors were very lucky. Condolences to those who lost loved ones.

Hate when I hear of plane accidents. Its a tragedy when even one soul perishes this way, let alone ten. Condolences to the Turkish families that have lost their loved ones, my prayers are with them. Tragic news like this makes me wonder sometimes how blind I am to appreciate the small things in life.

I have written an explanation on what happened to flight TK 1951 and specially why all 3 pilots died, when in survivable air crashes, the pilots are in better position to survive than passengers, but I'm not sure if this is being insensitive and that I should wait for the official report as to what happened.!

What does the forum members think I should do.?

According to the Turkish daily,Hürriyet, a Turkish passerbye who was one of those who went to the aid of the survivors, says he saw the pilots' hand, indicating that he was still alive after the crash. I wonder what happened.

Now, the Turkish Airline Pilots Association are querying the time it took for the Amsterdam Rescue people to reach the cockpit.

Deniz,

Don't pay any attention to useless information coming out of the Turkish News, when the information released from Turkey's own Transportation Minister has been telling distorted fiction. This report below was made a day after the crash. He first said that there were no casualties, then stated that the pilots were alive, and now he says that the pilot was a "hero" for saving others life at the risk of it's own. The plane was a mile from landing and should have been at least 500 ft in the air, but fell short of the intended runway in a cloudy and misty weather. The pilot had no idea that they were about to crash until the last seconds, let alone taking any evasive action to avert deaths to others over his own. I hate morons as this idiot Binali Yildirim is trying to do. They want to distort all information before it is even known what happened. This idiot should be sacked as of yesterday for giving out useless information. There is no need to make up stories until the facts are known. As I said, I wrote my own theory as to what happened, which is, it all happened in a split second without any warnings to anyone.

Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yildirim said a Turkish team of experts had left for the Netherlands to assist in the investigation. He also paid tribute to the pilot for minimising casualties by landing on the soft field.

"I would like to commemorate the pilot, who at the cost of his own life, ensured that human casualties were low," he said
.
