COMMITTEE ON MISSING PERSONS

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

COMMITTEE ON MISSING PERSONS

Postby halil » Sun Feb 22, 2009 9:54 pm

The third member of the Committee on Missing Persons Christophe Girod, appointed by the UN, has praised the two leaders in Cyprus for their support they provided to the Committee’s studies.

In a statement, he paid compliment to President Mehmet Ali Talat and the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias, saying that the two leaders have not politicized the issue and remain committed to the process which is aimed at determining the fate of Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot missing persons.
So far, remains of 104 Greek Cypriots and 31 Turkish Cypriots have been identified during the excavation work carried out by the Committee.
However Mr Girod says it might not be possible to find the remains of all missing persons.

The third member of the Committee draws attention to the fact that some of the eyewitnesses might not be able to recognize the place they saw years ago, and on the other hand, they can also report an area which is now replaced by buildings.

Christophe Girod also underlined the importance of providing continuous funding to the works of the Committee.

Meanwhile, President Mehmet Ali Talat is due to visit the Anthropology Labaratory of the Committee on Missing Persons in the UN-controlled buffer zone tomorrow morning, to receive information about the works of the Committee.

Halil, please stop refering to to Christofias as Mr or Greek Cypriot Leader. He is the President. Even if the Bayrak editors do it, kindly please change it before posting.
