Maybe the UBP winning will be a blessing in disguise... Talat still has a year to go and this may give the leaders the incentive to take the talks more seriously maybe...?

May be you are right T_C, but the rejectionists on our side are celebrating already.

I know Bananiot, what was I even thinking?

I also forgot that if there is a referandum the settlers will also be voting...and I think it will go in the same direction as this election... :(

Oh well..I suppose we'll just have to wait for Oracle's "velvet revolution" or till the GC's stage an attack on the TRNC via the Cyprus-Forum... :(

Talat only has himself to blame for this, Bananiot. Leaders are elected to lead and not follow others. Talat became a follower than a leader. People do not like to see weak leaders and "showboating" stunts, like his trip to Washington this week, for a 30 minutes with Hilary that took him few days away from the election arena.. Lets see if he can redeem himself by next year by wanting a fair settlement and not the stupid AP re-run.!

It makes no difference if its Eroglu, Cakici or Soyer or Denktash junior.... Ankara will dictate to its subordinate regime what solution it wants, when and how.

Its actually a good thing UBP being in power. Why? Because it will be easier to secure a YES vote in the referenda if the govt (which will be UBP) is backing it.

These "elections" in the occupied north have proved beyond any doubt that there can be no agreed solution without the repatriation of nearly all the mainland Turkish settlers from Cyprus. It is not possible for the GC community to accept the idea that its future in this country will be decided and determined by nationalist elements such as Eroglou, etc, which will always be able to control the "TC" community via the settlers' votes, and through them also the federal government, thus share and control the sovereignty and political independence of our island. We cannot possibly accept that Turkey will become our government one day, soon after a solution, in the same way in which Turkey is now the government of the "TCs" in the occupied north. This will be tantamount with a return back to the Ottoman Empire and the 300 years of Turkish occupation, in which we GCs were ruled by the Turkish Sultan of the "Grand Porte."

No GC can possibly accept the idea that an overweening and deluded pantourkist nationalist such as Eroglou will one day become the president of the GCs in a rotating presidency arrangement. Such a person will sell Cyprus to Turkey form the first day he will seat on the presidency chair of the federal government.

We do not accept Turkey to become our government, and this clear message should be send to Christofias stronger than ever.
