UBP LEADER DISMISSED THE CLAIMS AS AN “ELECTION PLAY”

The Leader of the main opposition National Unity Party Dervis Eroğlu has dismissed the accusations of involvement in the Ergenekon case and called the claims an “election game”.

In an interview with the Anatolian News Agency, the UBP leader claimed that the allegations were made as part of an “election game” being played by the ruling Republican Turkish Party together with former TRNC President Rauf Denktash as an attempt to stop his party from gaining more support just before Sunday’s parliamentary elections.

“Ergenekon is an issue for Turkey” he said, adding that it would be wrong to establish any link between the case and the TRNC.

It is not very scientific, but I was in the north yesterday and everybody I spoke to thinks that the UBP will win.

I think polls were banned for the month before election day.

According to a report in Turkey's Sabah newspaper, only 61,000 voters were born in Cyprus, and the remaining 100,000 voters came to the island from Turkey after 1974.

Out of those 61,000 voters born in Cyprus, what proportion had TC parents?

One thing I notice about the CTP's campaign is the absence of Turkish or TRNC flags from rallies and cavalcades, as the above picture shows.

Hmmm... Let's say at least half of the Cyprus born voters r descendents of settlers; 30.000 TC voters VS 130.000 "TC" voters.
