There are reports that the EU Commission will directly link the Cyprus talks with Turkish accession to the EU. The Commission is also making it clear that now the Cyprus is an EU member state, then the new state of affairs in Cyprus must adhere to the EU aquis without any exceptions.

The reasons are two-fold. Firstly, the EU wants to avoid stopping talks at the end of the year if Turkey does not implement the Ankara protocol regarding Cypurs. By linking the talks with accession it allows the Commission to delay cutting off talks.

Secondly, Turkey is dragging its feet regarding implementation of laws that align it with the EU. I think the EU is getting fed up with Turkeys attitude to EU accession proceess and is basically going to give it a big kick up the back side to show that the EU is serious. Linking the talks to accession means that Turkey must start to be more flexible in the negotiations in solving the Cyprus problem and to also get Turkey to move regarding the implementation of the EU laws in Turkey.

So finally, I think, we may be seeing light at the end of the tunnel. The EU needs to see actions rather than words.

What will this mean? Well it will probably mean that land/property situation will be solved, probably in favour of the GC's and we will get a true federal government as opposed to the confederal structure of the Annan plan. The price for this will be that the TC's will get more power in the federal government in order to offset the weakening of the bizonality that would be inevitable. In fact it has to be weakend - you cannot put restrictions on where people can live and work in Cyprus under the EU.

Watch this space.....

Borrowed from mikkie2,hope ypu dont mind to lazy to translate, the only thing though i didnt see anything about the t/c getting more power in the federal govt. And it your opinions what would that be??

I think it is about time to make to Turkey even more clear what is already clear. That without the solution of the Cyprus Problem she can not join the EU.

I also find this part important:

Τονίζεται ότι η ένταξη της Κύπρου στην ΕΕ έχει αλλάξει τα δεδομένα και δεν είναι πλέον δυνατή η «ευλύγιστη» αντιμετώπιση βασικών προνοιών του κεκτημένου, όπως θα μπορούσε να γίνει το 2004.

Translation:

"It is emphasized that the accession of Cyprus in EU has changed the facts and it is no longer possible to be 'flexible' with key provisions of the acquis, as it could be done in 2004"

So it is either a real solution, or no solution. Closing the Cyprus problem with something that would not actually solve the problem, like Annan plan, just to remove Cyprus from being an obstacle to the EU accession of Turkey, is no longer possible.

Without Turkey entry to EU ..... it is very clear there will be no solution in Cyprus and there will be no entry for ''ROC'' to NATO as well. These are all clear nothing to moan about .

Everybody will use their own guns .............. at the end Turkey will be in EU ....... Cyprus will be Federal united States of Cyprus .......

End of the FILM.

I am afraid this film will not have a happy ending for either you or Turkey.
