No, Turkey was doing everything according to the book, because the crimes in Cyprus were real and Turkeys intervention was legal and approved.

It all went downhill when they declared the TRNC on their own initiative.

THATS why we are not recognized, not the prior.

Turkey at no point had a right to violate the sovereignty of Republic of Cyprus and occupy even an inch of our island.

RESOLUTION 353 (1974)

Adopted by the Security Council at its 1771st meeting,
on 20 July 1974

The Security Council,

Having considered the report of the Secretary-General, at its 1779th meeting, about the recent developments in Cyprus,

Having heard the statement of the President of the Republic of Cyprus and the statements of the representatives of Cyprus, Turkey, Greece and other Member States,

Noting also from the report the conditions prevailing in the island,

Deeply deploring the outbreak of violence and the continuing bloodshed,

Gravely concerned about the situation which has led to a serious threat to international peace and security, and which has created a most explosive situation in the whole Eastern Mediterranean area,

Equally concerned about the necessity to restore the constitutional structure of the Republic of Cyprus, established and guaranteed by international agreements,

Conscious of its primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security in accordance with Article 24 of the Charter of the United Nations,

1.Calls upon all States to respect the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Cyprus.

2.Calls upon all parties to the present fighting as a first step to cease all firing and requests all States to exercise the utmost restraint and to refrain from any action which might further aggravate the situation;

3.Demands an immediate end to foreign military intervention in the Republic of Cyprus that is in contravention of the provisions of paragraph 1 above;

4. Requests the withdrawal without delay from the Republic of Cyprus of foreign military personnel present otherwise than under the authority of international agreements, including those whose withdrawal was requested by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios, in his letter of 2 July 1974;

5. Calls upon Greece, Turkey and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to enter into negotiations without delay for the restoration of peace in the area and constitutional government of Cyprus and to keep the Secretary-General informed;

6. Calls upon all parties to co-operate fully with the United Nations Peace-keeping Force in Cyprus to enable it to carry out its mandate;

7. Decides to keep the situation under constant review and asks the Secretary-General to report as appropriate with a view to adopting further measures in order to ensure that peaceful conditions are restored as soon as possible.

Adopted unanimously at the 1781st meeting.

OUR island was totally fucked by the coup in your mainland which you had no control over.

If it was not for Turkey ALL Makarios supporters would have been killed and us would have become a part of Greece, thus why Turkey used its LEGAL right to intervene as a guarantor.

And don't come back arguing that this is your "democratic right" as that's nothing but utter bullshit, only plausible within the tight boundaries of your fascist view of the world.

Shah,

You can make the above argument to justify Turkey's actions on the first intervention/invasion which most would back you up, despite UN rules overriding the guarantor rights of unilateral intervention/invasion, but lets put that technicality aside for a moment and ask how you can justify the second invasion by Turkey few weeks later which caused partition, most of the damage, as well as loss of lives from both sides, when the coupist were already defeated, Cyprus had not become part of Greece through Enosis, the Junta in Greece were out, and the Cyprus government was restored. This was the time for Turkey to show the world after the first intervention/invasion that she was fulfilling her guarantorship responsibilities by making sure that the Cyprus Government was back on it's feet, and help resolve the differences between the GC's and the TC's over the 13 points. By all accounts, there were no hostilities going on between the GC's and the TC's in 1974 or even few years before that time. Turkey's second invasion was just that and there isn't any arguments you can make for it's justification. The first intervention/invasion had solved the original problems, but the second invasion resulted today’s division. Turkey applied only ONE part of her legal obligation as a guarantor, but violated dozens of other legal obligations she had signed up for, hence all the UN resolutions against Turkey ever since. These are the facts you cannot deny and it is these violations which Turkey had committed, that they will not be allowed to become a guarantor power ever again in Cyprus.!

My friend, what Turkey did was a full scale invasion, killing 1000s of people, ethnically cleansing 100s of thousands, with the aim to occupy 1/3rd of the sovereign Republic of Cyprus.

If all these crimes were "legal", then why was the above UN resolution issued on the 20th of July?

It is obvious that Kikapu's historical knowledge is fed by solely GC history books. Coupists weren't defeated. Just Sampson resigned and Klerides was put in place of him. The irregulars of EOKA-B guerillas were still active. Neither the new government of Greece nor Klerides administration could stop or arrest those EOKA-B irregulars. The sole reason Turkey launched the second phase of intervention was these EOKA-B guerillas that they showed their barbarian acts in Atlialar, Sandallar and Murataga villages by massacreing all TCs in those villages during the second phase of Turkish intervention.

Kikapu, u must pray ur God(if u have one) that Turkey didn't launch a 3rd phase of intervention Island wide in order to ward off those EOKA-B guerillas. Had Turkey launched a 3rd phase of intervention the bloodshed would have been way too much from both sides and the guerilla warfare between EOKA-B and Turkish troops would have lasted for many years.

Under the then hostile environment, besides while EOKA-B was still active; Turkey did the best possible by seperating 2 communities for their safety, then continuing talks to find a just and viable solution.

Btw, have u any idea why neither the then Greek government nor Klerides administration could arrest those EOKA-B guerillas? Fear of guerilla warfare and more bloodshed? Or was it something totally political? Till 1976, they sustained their violent actions in so-called free areas. Who was protecting them? Or they well knew that no one would dare to engage a guerilla warfare against them?

Turkey is still trying to resolve the problems between TCs and GCs, so she has every right to be here.
