Alpay Durduran:"Show good will with actions"

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Alpay Durduran:"Show good will with actions"

Postby RAFAELLA » Thu Jun 02, 2005 3:10 pm

Turkish Cypriot daily AFRIKA newspaper (02.06.05) reports that Mr Alpay Durduran, the Secretary of International Relations of the New Cyprus Party, called on those who declare that they want solution to show with their actions their good will on the issue.

Mr Durduran stated that those who say that they want peace, cannot prove their good intentions, unless they invite the owners of the houses that are in the empty Varosha (occupied Famagusta) to take their houses, they work so that the fate of the missing persons is ascertained, and their bodies are handed over to their relatives and unless they say `stop to the looting of the properties΄.

Mr Durduran also called on the “authorities” in occupied Cyprus to cooperate with the European Union instead of cooperating with Ankara and to try not to create enmity between the Cypriots. “Otherwise they will not take steps for peace and the situation will become even worse”, he said. In addition Mr Durduran criticised the new proposals of Turkey for Cyprus and stated that they will never be accepted by the Greek Cypriot side.

At least someone dares to speak the truth, who will listen though?

Coming with quote of this guy doesnt help anything. He is far from the concerns of the TC.

I dont think he feels like any TC either (in the identity sense).

Garbitsch, you don't share Durduran's views and I respect that.
But, what did the Tcs do to show good will towards the Gcs? :?
Since a part of Famagusta is closed/empty for all those years, I don't see a reason why not giving it back to Gcs.
For so many years Tr didn't do a thing to help by giving information to the relatives of the missing persons.
And why they don't stop the illegal sale of Gc properties?

The only thing turks achieve to do is giving proposals that they already know Gcs will reject and then they start claiming and accusing Gcs that they are against a solution. That's their tactic.

The same tactic the GC side have been using for years before E.U entry, it worked for you

All these are valid points. Just because it is Durduran saying it doesn't mean TCs shouldn't be listening.

Same goes the other way around...What did GCs do to show goodwill towards TCs? Free healthcare? Ok, that's one. What else has been done that will make TCs really trust GCs? Are there any proposals to welcome TCs in the RoC??

Lots of things can be done by both sides and both sides prefer to keep their cards for the negotiation table. It's that simple.
