That figure is not accurate either. Turkey is reputed to spend 14 Billion on their so called Kurdish problem.
That means they make money out of Cyprus!

I know it seems fantasy world but it aint.

Figures we are being given just don't tally.

You can't delete posts on CyProb. Edit only allowed, so edit down to 'dp'.

Everyone like's to brag about how much money they have or spent and on and on and on, but where the truth is, is anyone’s guess. Saddam bragged that he had Nuclear Weapons, but had no "mushroom cloud" to prove it and got his butt kicked by his long time good friend, the USA. People brag, leaders brag and countries brag. They are nothing but braggadocios.!

I have just noticed that the Turkish Lira is on a severe downward spiral in losing its value against all major currencies, specially against the US Dollar. This will spell disaster to all TC's who are paid in Turkish Lira as well as Turkey's GDP for this year, not even counting the effects that will be felt from the downturn of the economy, so overall, the Turkish Military may have to do with what they have already, because I doubt they will be given too much money by the Turkish Government to buy anymore "new toys." Everyone has to tighten their belts, but the worse will be for the TC's in the "trnc" who get paid with the YTL from Turkey.

I'm afraid, tough times are ahead for all those with weak currencies in their pockets, and slightly better with those even with a strong currencies.!

In 1974 rate was 30 TL to 1 pound. It reached 3Million Tel to 1 pound. They survived and they will survive again with this credit crunch. The sad fact is that TCs are caught between a rock and a hard place and there is nothing they can do about it.
.
The problem with Turkey is that they are very secretive in what they do.

The 50% I got was some years back when I read a report on how much Military took out of the budget. It may have been the percentage of the budget rather than GDP. Its only recently that the Turkish economy has reached such high GDP values. When you compared the actual money spent with the american contribution, it was a considerable sum. However, the Turks are very secretive and will not announce anything. The figures shown on all countries spending on military is nonsense. It is nothing to boast about. It is a very sad situation; that so much money can be spent by Turkey on arms, when She needs it for Social Services, Education, Health, Pensions.
