Hi all,

I just found the following on the CyprusLiving Forum in a thread entitled "Hotels In Kyrenia"...

"I gather you are Cypriot? whatever, why did you go, if you have such a distaste for the place? I know Turkey invaded Cyprus, it wouldn't stop me going to Turkey, just as it ditn't stop me marrying an Englishman, even though I'm a Scot who has watched 'Braveheart' lol, and still enjoy my visits to England, and have many English friends?"

This comment utterly incenses me... how can somebody live in this country and display such an utter lack of appreciation for the politics and feelings involved???

I don't have membership of that forum, and I'm taking a guess that my response would probably be moderated from the face of the earth...

The Brits (like myself) always seem to get a hard time in this forum - this is the evidence of why they sometimes deserve it...

I still live in hope that one day, Britain will finally be ashamed of itself to create some sort of rule where people have to have minimum educational qualifications and a clean criminal record before they're allowed to leave the country. I'm not quite sure whether I'm joking in this paragraph or not...

As to the post. What's the problem? Sounds like a Cypriot complained as somebody went to a hotel in the occupied North. Would appear that the Cypriot who complained had also been to the same hotel. Pot, kettle, black springs to mind.

Get a life - thousands of Cypriots cross the line to the north everyday. Are they all traitors????

You might have a legitimate claim if it was a local claiming they didn't give a toss about the conflict but expecting everybody on the planet to care is just egocentric.

Your being sensationalist and stirring it up for the sake of it.

Getting someone else to fight your battles????

First of all ....... u should know before 74 TC's were living in Northern part of the island too ..... your cheap claims are saying all the times and trying to show that we don't own any land or properties in North .totally one sided propaganda of yours .If the TC's occupies any GC's owned property or place in the North is because of Cyprus problem and since 1963 it is existing and it is in the agenda of the world all the time to solve this problem .

You must realise that life goes on .... People are free to go everywhere to discover whats going on and they have rights to see everywhere .No one in the north forcing the people don't go to south as a visitor .We never tell them ....Don't go to Paphos .... some part of the Paphos was belonging the TC's Cypriots ....You are staying on the Stolen TC's properties or lands ....the road just u travelling on it .... belongs to TC's ..... your behavior shows that how poor and self minded u are ....

Halil - you misunderstand what I'm suggesting. I quoted a Brit, who frankly had a complete lack of understanding of the situation, by comparing it to Braveheart and saying "Well, I'm Scottish, and I married an English person"... my point being that Scotland/England was in no way comparable to Turkey/Cyprus. I understand you were in the the south pre-'74, and you have just as much right to restitution as the GC's do.

If you summarise the problem, it comes down to the fact that I am stunned that someone can live on this island and be quite so oblivious to the political issues that take place here...

To take two opposing sides.... Halil and Oracle... will either of you accept that the situation is in any way similar to Braveheart? Really?

JimB - I'm happy to accept your comment that I posted it here to "sensationise", but, really, what's the point in arguing with people who have moved to Cyprus to live in their own British bubble, shop at Marks & Spencer, and pretend that the politics of the island just don't exist?

There's a reason the CyprusDying forum doesn't discuss it... it doesn't effect the peaceful home counties life... so why would they care???
