DISGRACE

Postby Bananiot » Tue Feb 17, 2009 10:21 pm

A policeman pulls over at a petrol station to fill his deposit. He discovers that the pump runs free and he fills his car. Next he informs a bunch of Chinese people he employs and they all pay the petrol station a visit. Then more customers pull over and soon the "good news" spreads. People arrive with all sort of containers to treat themselves to free petrol and diesel. Most are recorded on film by the close survailance system. Some cover their face and remove their car plates. These are the clever ones. The owner goes down a couple of thousand euros but the biggest loser is our Cypriot dignity which my friend Miltiades cherishes so much. This place sucks, big time, and before some wise guys tell me that it happens all the elsewhere, let me rimind you of times when we could leave the car windows open, the key on the starter and our home's front door open.

Here is a picture of a thief caught red handed.

A similar incident took place in Trimiklini, not on camera but alot of passers by had their fill.
Someone informed the owner what was happening and he turned up with his neighbour and a big stick, the story goes he gave four guys a hell of a beating.

Haven't had a chance to read the local press today etc. so not sure of the source or legitimacy of this post.

Can't say that I'm surprised though if it's true.

Cypriot dignity has all but gone.

A relic of the past due to the corruption endemic in the police, the government and the government agencies.

Hardly a day goes by when some official or other isn't accused or found out for some dodgy deal or sharp practice. Everybody's in everyone else's pocket and they are profiting at the expense of the populace.

This would be bad enough if it was a local or a tourist taking advantage of the petrol stations dodgy machines.

But this is a local police officer???? Sworn to protect and uphold the law in your country. What a shining example!

I hope they find him, lock him up for a long time, forfeit his pension and leave him with nothing. He's a disgrace to the police and to your country in general.

But we all know it's far more likely that the paper work will mysteriously disappear, the cctv evidence will be destroyed and his colleagues will go on strike in support of him ...

Yet another example of the corruption endemic in the Cypriot police force (and what is he doing 'employing Chinese people'????).

If Cyprus ever wants to regain any sort of dignity they need to demand more from their government and their elected representatives.

You can't have criminals policing your country.

I remember an incident , many many years ago , before the earthquake of 1953 that destroyed Stroumbi , when my father took me along to Theletra on a Sunday to vist his Dad , my grandfather .
I followed my father into the square where the kafenio was situated and on arriving there a commotion was going on with one villager loudly complaining to the priest and the rest of the people who had just come out of Sunday church that "mia megali kleptsia " ( a substantial theft ) had occurred !!
Some had nicked a couple of chili peppers from his plant !!! The aggrieved villager was shouting that he had counted the chilies on his house plant the night before and there were 7 chili peppers , this morning only 5 were on the plant.
I guess things have changed over the years , some to the good of the people and some not so good.
The story of the petrol thieving is a reminder to us all that greed sees nothing wrong in stealing in order to satisfy this lurid human weakness .
Having lived in the UK , not just most of my life , but almost all of my life , I can say that I can count on one hand the times that I was the victim of crime .Had my house burgled once only , had a car stolen once only , beaten up badly once only , robbed of money once only , not bad in 48 years , almost forgot , got married once only !!

Yes idiot, the culprits were Turkish Cypriots dressed as Greek Cypriots in order to expose us as greedy, thieving scum of the earth.

Had anyone else posted this I would have jumped in and shared in my disgust. Knowing however the immense pleasure it gives you to see anything of this island in a negative light makes me think twice before giving you further pleasure.

Firstly the phrase " This place sucks bigtime" is usually followed by "Then get the hell out of here"

Secondly, you admission of suckiness of this place and your obvious disgust at the state of this island makes you the last person that ANYONE should EVER believe when talking about the future of this island. Judging by your posts so far, a positive outcome for you would be for further misfortune, mistake, calamity and general negative outcomes to hit this island like a tsunami (or at least the south part of it) Thereby ridding you of these lowly, unethical, uneducated Cypriot donkeys you need to put up with day in and day out. On top of that you need to waste your time teaching their lowly, unethical, uneducated Cypriot donkey children for a living!!!

Finally I'd like to finish with saying how much thieves of any kind disgust me, thieves of money, fuel, homes etc.... What I also hate though is some guy sitting on a PC sounding like he just won the lottery because he read about these thieves in the paper.

BTW 14 years in London and had car broken into 3 times (twice for the radio and once for the car) House burgled once and mugged twice (both in Leicester Sq.)

So it is not the place that sucks but this time that sucks. Because other countries at this time suck much more. Crime rate in Cyprus is much lower than most other EU countries. And i don't even agree that this time sucks for Cyprus. Some things are now worst than before but a lot of other things are much better. You can't have everything!

You can not possibly compare the UK and Cyprus in the corruption events.
The UK has one of the most corrupt bunch of politicians , Lords , Bankers and wealthy business people.
The politicians , ALL OF THEM , are in it for as much as they can get , they will claim for anything and everything , just look at the latest news on Mr Darling , our Chancellor !!
The House of Lords is full of good for nothing bloody crooks , some with criminal records and each protecting each others position. I tell you it stinks !
Look at the greedy bankers , the government bails the Bank of Scotland out and LLoyds TSB and what do they want to do. Pay themselves huge bonuses for being such a bloody failure.
A wealty businessman whose wife is a Minister is found guilty of accepting bribes to the tune of £400,000.
Sentenced to 4 years in jail, will he serve a minute in jail , of course not !!
The difference between corruption in Cyprus and corruption in the UK is the same difference as that of one single street prostitute and a 1000 high class whores !
