Are TCs more Turks or Cypriots

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

And therein lies the problem... until the day comes when all regard themselves as Cypriots, the problems will remain

so true, but we are no closer to agreeing anything and time will cement partition forever, as I have always said this will be our only alternative in 3 4 5 years time.

But isn't this what will give you most happiness? Isn't this what you want more than anything else?

if somebody asked me what i am i would say greek. but if i was to ask a Tc they would call themselves cypriot. dont know why this is

Why, are you from Greece?? I always introduce myself as Cypriot and i think the majority of GCs introduce themselves as Cypriots.

In my experience it's about 50/50. Most introduce themselves as Cypriot, or Greek Cypriot, but delve underneath the surface and ask them what they feel and many will say 'Greek', not Cypriot.

Yes you are right, things seem to be moving along nicely, if both sides continue to do what they are doing for the next few years, patition will be cemented and TRNC will be recognised.

Do you see it now Kifeas???

If VP does indeed hope for a cementing of the division and recognition of the TRNC, it's a valid perspective at least. I've heard a number of GC friends of mine talk about division as a way forward, and how they don't know if they could actually live together in peace with TCs. It might not be the scenario that most of us wish for, but if that's what VP believes, he has a right to do so.

Incidentally Kifeas, congrats on your 1000th post.

I'd rather have a TC openly admiting that he/she wants partition, or a GC openly admiting that he/she wants total majority control of the island than hiding behind words like "democracy", "full human rights", "majority rules" etc.

what probably happens here, and im guilty of it....is when we speak in english, to english people in particular.... we/i say that im greek....reason being.....that an english peoson would say 'what' to an answer of 'cypriot' then it would be 'its like being greek', so they then assume your just a regular greek person. Most probably think cyprus is part of greece.

However, if you are speaking in greek i would say im cypriot, usuaully because to a greek speaking person, they know the differences.

hope that makes sense

Why do you sound so suprised? although Im not a fanatical divisionalist, I feel its the only way forward, I have stated in this in many of my posts. We are unable to find a solution that will statisfy both sides to a degree where both communities would be committed to making it work. We could try various combinations for the next 100 years and still voted it down, our ideas and viewpoints to a solution are clearly so far apart which is confirmed by this forum, that any further rounds of negotiations imo are futile and we will just be going around in circles playing the game.

Do you see how the current developments are bringing us closer to cementing partition???

Yes Viewpoint, you said it many times! I know what you want! However, I have yet to see your map with the 18% of territory that you want to keep. And make sure the coastline is no more than 20%. (I am a bit generous on this!) Ah! And because we plan to build a 6 meter wall to keep the mainland settlers from infiltrating into the south, make sure the borderline is not very long.
