How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

How about "ta rialia rialia stin pounga"? That would be most representative of Cypriots!

(apologies to TC friends if this was incomprensible - it's a GC song that talks about having lots of money)

Now we're talking!

Has anyone heard the song 'Kardaşim Duymuz' (‘My Brother’)? Apparently ıt was written by a Turkish singer Zulfu Livaneli and Mikis Theodorakis.

According to one website it's a song that reframes conflict as a mutual problem, helping identify the common interests and fundamental human needs that are endangered by violence. I'd be interested in hearing it if anyone has a copy.

I'm sure Bro' would also be overjoyed to have a Cypriot national anthem named after him...

The RoC theme on what happened in 1963 is Turkish Cypriot revolt. I was just stating a fact.

If you are asking about what I believe, then, the blame is shouldered by nationalist elements from both communities that never believed in the 1959-1960 agreements. The TC fanatics wanted taksim and the GC fanatics (sorry to say the government) looked at the agreements just as a stepping stone to achieve enosis.

As far as I know, the song was composed by Zulfu Livaneli. It has a magnificent melody and meaning. I think greek singer Maria Farounduri sings the greek version.

But, it is a bit melancholic to be a national anthem.

Cannedmoose, I can send you the song if you like...

Well, using the national anthem of Greece is obviously unfair for TCs.

I hope the TCs can also accept there are some things that are obviously unfair for the GCs also (like the 30% of government positions)

If we could just agree to change the obviously unfair things, and then negotiate the not so obvious ones making some mutual compromises, then the "new RoC" could easily work for both communities.
