And as for your worthy contributions, you, who saw fit to join the forum with this most awe-inspiring post ...

Perhaps you need to eat some peas; very nutritious!

If you are unable to digest such happenings; why not take up your objections, with the Editors of Metro who saw fit to publish the story (for over 10 Million Londoners' eyes  ), and made it FRONT page news!

Silence the newspapers, why don't you? ... Freedom of speech  ... what a pain!

To see a world in a grain of sand ...

This story/study was on the Swiss radio's news report the other day, which I managed to find it on the internet. This is very tragic no matter what nationality the women/men are, such abuses of them/by them do not belong in the 21st century.!

Turkish women abused by husbands: study

February 13, 2009, 7:04 am

"More than 40 per cent of women in Turkey have been physically or sexually abused by their husbands, according to a survey released on Thursday by the Prime Minister's office.

Only a fraction of victims "slapped, pushed, punched, choked, burnt or threatened or attacked with a weapon such as a knife or gun" ever report the abuse to authorities, the Department for the Status of Women said in a press release accompanying the survey.

The survey showed a clear income divide with just under 50 per cent of women in low income households reporting to have been physically or sexually abused by their husbands, compared to 28.7 per cent of those in the higher income bracket.

Regionally, women in central and eastern Turkey were also much more likely to suffer from abuse, with more than 50 per cent in southeastern Turkey reporting abuse compared to less than 27 per cent in northwestern Turkey.

In total 12,795 women across the country took part in the survey in August and October 2008."

I don't often agree with Oracle, in fact the opposite most of the time, but I don't see this particular thread as racist. Maybe the choice of the title of the thread was not good, but I admit I found it funny in an ironic way that she asked her husband for the cancellation fee, as did my TC colleagues at work when I related the story to them. The story itself is sad I agree, but there is also the comical element too. Remember Mr Bobbit? I defy anyone to admit they DIDN'T laugh at that tragi-comedy too!!!

That's a shocking survey Kikapu. I don't know what the global figures are to compare.

It's interesting with this TC woman, that a few have supported her actions, on the basis that she claimed abuse .... Yet talking to some others about this story, all seemed to think that was just a defence for her actions, but unlikely to be true, since she entered into an affair and then tried to bump him off, then was seemingly unafraid of the hubby to tell him what she'd done and ask for an extra £50. She would have then met with a severe beating from the hubby if he was truly abusive ... but that didn't happen.

The judge couldn't have believed her story of abuse either, since he sentenced her to "life skills" studies suggesting she was having trouble coping with reality.

I know it's hard to disbelieve the potential victim from something so heinous as domestic violence, but equally she would be doing a massive disservice to women who are abused by behaving in this way.... when the only course of action (certainly in the UK) is to leave!

I guess the stigma in Turkey would be worse than a death sentence for deserting the home under any circumstances.

I don't know .... human condition, eh :?

That's all right then .... no one has seen the story

The fact that it's a free newspaper distributed in 16 of the major cities, picked up by millions and left on buses and tubes and trains for many more to pick up and while away the waiting time of course is too much for you to understand .... Let's not even go onto the Internet version and people e-mailing stories to others (which is how I was sent mine) ... nope you are safe. No one samples the Metro.

I still recommend you actually eat some peas ...

Really? Is that an important fact? I thought how many do, would be more significant. But London is just part of its home territory. It doesn't stop there. However, let's not forget you have self proclaimed cranial attrition.

So are you putting in a tender? £80 or £8, name your price
