I love "ancient Greeks".

There were no "Ancient Greeks" since the word "Greek" was not coined until after the Roman conquests, approximately 600 years after the establishment of the City States and approximately 150 years after they were conquered by the Macedonians. There were only Ancient City States, but at the time they were not called Greeks! Yet today we have ten million people who do call themselves "Greeks" and do claim they are the descendents of a race of people called "Ancient Greeks" when such a name never existed at the time! Besides, how do we know that those who today call themselves "Greeks" are really "Greeks" and not the product of all the people that settled that region over the years? Is there some sort of test to prove they are pure?

The truth is modern Greeks are not only NOT direct descendents of the ancients, but their claims to being "Greek" is dubious at best. It is Greece and the Greeks that are a modern 19th century creation: Not Macedonians. History can prove that!

The greatest victims of Greek "claims" are the Greeks themselves

The Ancient Greeks in Afghanistan
The Ancient Greeks in Afghanistan and Their Probable Descendants Today in Nuristan, Afghanistan and in the Kalash People, Pakistan
By Michael Issigonis

The Kalash People
The Kalash people of northwestern Pakistan are unique in their customs and religion. Although surrounded by Moslems in all directions (Pakistan is essentially a Moslem state), they believe in ancient Greek gods and goddessess such as Zeus, Aphrodite, Hestia, and Apollo. Their language is principally a mixture of Sanskrit and Greek. They grow grapes and make wine (an illegal action in an Islamic country) and their diet is rich in fruits, vegetables and nuts. Unlike their neighbors who sit on the ground, they use stools and chairs and their carpentry is decorated with Macedonian stars and "suns".

 No mate, the word "Greek" is not a Greek word. We call ourselves Έλληνες, and this has been the case since the ancient times.

Your first source is some "Risto Stefov" ([email protected]) who is a Slav from Skopje and he is trying to find some excuse on why they are trying to hijack the Greek name of Macedonia to name their country.

The fact is that at the time of Alexander the Great, there were no Slavs at all. No "Ancient Slavs" and no "Modern Slavs". The Slavs appeared in the region about 1000 years later!

Those Slavs calling themselves "Macedonians" would be the equivalent of the Turks calling themselves "Byzantines", simply because they currently occupy the territory of the former Byzantine empire.

Turco's, Monkeydonians and Shiptars are all thieves living on stolen land. The Monkeydonians in particular are some of the biggest fools in the world, made up of a bunch Monkeys at the top and various dog people at the bottom. Some lost Bulgars who came from the steppes of Asia, speaking a Turkic language then being Slavanised. No wonder they are such good friends with the Turks, the Turkic blood must still run deep in their veins. What is needed is another Basil the Bulgar slayer to help them SEE the truth!

Insan you are not going to make an iota of difference to the Global image of the Ancient Greeks (by whatever name  ), and neither regarding any of their descendants, who strive to uphold the traditions, moral and ethical principles, instilled by their mothers, despite opposition from Turks (by whatever name).

I used to have an Indian medic neighbour (with blue eyes), who was a descendant of Alexander the Great's soldiers, and a very scholarly man he was too, and proud of his roots, although very much "Indian".

Cleopatra and many Egyptians can also lay claim to having a little Greek in them

Pythias was the first to chart the British Isles, whilst the natives were still in caves, and no doubt many Brits can boast Greekness.

And of course from all these known nations, Brits, Indians, Egyptians etc ... we have a web which spreads across the world ... all bearing "Greek Genes" 8) . So Humanity prevails and improves, onwards, from these beginnings of civilisation.

But what is most profound insan, is your unwholesome crypto Greek envy. Under most circumstances, anyone can associate themselves with the Greeks and follow their teachings and continue to improve upon them ... yet the Turks, from whom you undoubtedly hail, made it their modus operandi to annihilate us, and replace us (as you continue to do to this day, in Cyprus), instead of joining the web of humanity, not in direct opposition, but in harmony ...

The Turks have declared themselves the Nemesis of the Greeks.

Good (Greeks) will prevail ....

O Γκρεκος ( Gkrekos) is an insult actually given to the Hellenes by the Romans. Hellenes have never reffered to themselves as that unless they are talking in English to someone. The term has always been Ellines.

We in Cyprus differentiate further by calling the Hellenes of Hellas mainland the Elladites while reserving the term Hellenes for the Hellenic populations as a whole including the Greek Cypriots (Ellino Kyprioi, Pontians etc...)
