Europarliament Committee calls on Turkey to withdraw troops

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Kuruovali » Thu Feb 12, 2009 4:51 pm

It is abundantly clear that this body that calls itself 'The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament' clearly no nothing about Cyprus and in particular the views/sensitivities of the Turkish Cypriot population. They should refrain from making any further comments/statements as I fear their unqualified statements will do more harm then good.

If this 'committee' was true and honest they should start by questioning/criticising the motives of the EU in allowing the GC south entry into the EU and the ramifications that this would have upon any subsequent 'peace' talks. Clearly the EU took one side and this one sided approach from the EU has remained ever since. I have no reason to believe this will change. This just remainds us (TC's) why we need the Turkish troops to remain until a just and viable solution is found. I say this not only for the benefit of TC's but also for the long term benefit of the GC's.

Well given the benefits we all enjoyed from the Jurkish Army in the Summer of 74 with the murder of thousands and the ethnic cleansing of the north I feel I can't agree with this view.

I take it that you are implying that the The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament is NOT RECOGNIZED by you !!! Your usage of inverted commas is astonishing to say the least , and your descriptive term " this body that calls itself " speaks volumes of your utterly ludicrous assertion. Why not refer to the EU as the so called , why not use inverted commas as well. !!!
Look mate , like it or not Cyprus is a full member of the EU , AND THE EU CONSIDERS CYPRUS AS EUROPEAN TERRITORY .
Turkey will sooner rather than later be required to tow the line.

Miltiades, surely you can see that it will not arise, because the agreement will come before the deadline. All they do is postpone the chapter and start negotiating the next one. They are simply not closeing certain chapters.
Now, Assuming that there is an agreement acceptable to both sides, then there is no issue.
The tricky thing is what happens if we find ourselves in the same positon as last time. TCs vote yes and GCs vote no.
That is intersting to see what people think may happen in this scenario.

Not that I am advocating it.

The only agreement that is acceptable will be the one which is democratic for all citizens of Cyprus. So if the agreement is democratic I'm afraid it's not the GC's vote you have to worry about. It will be the TC's that will vote NO. They will not accept an agreement which is not in their favor or democratic.

I like your description of democracy. I look forward to the day when it applies to EU. At the moment, the smallest country can hold it to ransom.
Perhaps we can have that in Cyprus!

just like those who pushed for enosis lost 37% os the island to turkey not accepting NO for an answer

Wrong end of the stick mate, we remember the events of:

1) 1963; inter-communal fighting and Genocide against Turkish Cypriots
2) We remember the 15th July 1974 Coup
3) We remember what happened to the Turkish people of Crete
4) We remember your "NO" to the Annan Plan
5) We remember the purchase of the S300 missiles
6) We remember the Greek revolt against BRITISH RULE and then the independence of the Republic of Cyprus!
7) We remember the many failed UN plans since 1974
8) We remember the high level agreements and Makarios' commitment to a FEDERAL formula and not one based on GC domination.

AND, we remember when the EU recognised Kosovo, recognised the FYR of Macedonia and the split between Montenegro and Serbia and how Serbia was very disappointed, but could not do anything about it. We remember the Former Yugoslavian state and the conflict after it; genocide. We also remember how the CLOSE people of the former Czechoslovakia decided to split and was ACCEPTED by the EU.

YOU WILL ONE DAY REMEMBER THE CURRENT PROCESS and how partition, like most of Europe Became a reality in Cyprus.

Stop kidding yourselves, it'll only be harder for you to fathom in the long-run!

The evidence and Support for TWO REPUBLIC CYPRIOT States is overwhelming, and now too obvious to dismiss. I'm looking forward to working with the Greek Cypriots as a a Republic partner of the TRNC, perhaps you should bury your hatred and accept the reality.

Enosis is old news, a term that I did not use - why don't you broaden your mind and see the bigger picture of mutual understanding, similar to how the Czechs and Slovakians did/ and still do. You'll only damage yourselves if you don't!
