Cyprus Probate/Administration Fees

Postby chrisbutts » Wed Feb 11, 2009 1:26 pm

Hi to anyone out there. I have a question I wish to pose concerning a legal matter namely Cyprus Probate Fees. My father recently passed away and left a Cyprus will leaving his estate to his two daughters. There is no spouse as my mother passed away a few years ago. Having made enquires with one Cyprus Solicitor, I have been informed that the cost of executing the will will be based on the value of my fathers estate which he quoted at 8%. In order for us to cover these fees he recommended we sell a piece of land and the fees would be deducted from sale proceeds. I wish to know if this is true or not or whether we are being taken for mugs as we are uk residents. The amount is quite considerable.

I think thats a ridiculous fee. Some surviving partners have had the runaround from Lawyers regarding probate taking sometimes years even when Wills are in place.

Don,t know in Cyprus where your father was living, but be very careful what Lawyer you chose, unfortunately the Cyprus Bar Association do have a minimum requirement for probate fees but NOT a maximum which has led to some extortionate fees for some unsuspecting people.

Having looked on the recomended Lawyers website there are three in the Famagusta area which would certainly not be the ones to pick

Try googling Louise Zambartas in Limassol gives her website, she is an excellent Lawyer and as you are based in the UK she can help, also tells you her fees upfront. Then its up to you, Probate in Cyprus has been known to be very lengthy so be patient.

Thank you for the information. I will contact the Louise Zambartas law firm in Limassol. The land is close to Limassol.
