Australian Fires

Postby denizaksulu » Sun Feb 08, 2009 12:32 pm

I hope our friends in Australia - and there are quite a few, like BK, Paphitis, Humanist and Boomers et al are safe. I know Australia is a large continent/Island, but I have no idea of there wherabouts.

Its sickening to hear that some of these fires have been started deliberately by sick people.

Whereever you are give us a shout.

Humanist will fill himself up a bit. He looks a bit frail.

As they are ahead of us time wise D all our Oz friends will probably be in bed by now.
The fires are in Victoria and according the to cricket commentary today (Australia v New Zealand - we won't mention England's miserable performance yesterday!) there is to be an public appeal for donations at the next ODI - on Tuesday.

Hello Deniz,

Thank you for your concern.

I can confirm that I am very far from the Victorian bushfires and am not at any risk. Both Boomers and BK actually live in Victoria. I do not know exactly where they live, but I presume it is in metropolitan Melbourne, and hence they too should also be safe.

The Victorian Bushfires have so far claimed 84 lives. Both South Australia and Victoria have experienced an unprecedented heat wave with temperatures reaching the high forties. The heatwave alone has also claimed many lives, 25 in Adelaide alone.

I have just got back from Darwin where the temperature was 31 degrees and humidity is always 95%. This by contrast was a big relief from mid 40 degree temperatures for the last 2 weeks. We have had a cool change today.

The temperature in Mildura yesterday reached 48 degrees Celsius.

BK lives in the the Blue Mountains (near Katoomba) I believe, so he is safe.

It is not late by my standards, but I am feeling very tired. I shall be retiring real soon.

I can hardly keep my eyes open as my roster for the last 2 weeks has been very grueling. It is really bad when you have to earn your money for a change. I am going to have to whinge and complain to management about fatigue and stress and perhaps even submit a Safety Incident Report just to put the cat amongst the pigeons and teach management a lesson. 8)

Off to Moonta Bay tomorrow in order to rejuvenate. :D

Nobody remembered me  .

Yes, the fires have been raging this weekend with the 45 degree high on Saturday there has been 25 confirmed deaths in the Gippsland area, ( not far from Melbourne ) . I work part-time at a Electronics Retailer in a town just on the outskirts of Melbourne (Sunbury), we get many country folk coming into the store. Last week we had a frenzy of people buying CB radios and Scanners, we sold out completely. I wanted to drive into the country this weekend but it's not worth the risk.
