THE SPEAKER: Andrew Dismore studied law in the University of Warwick and the London School of Economics, and worked as solicitor, specialising in helping victims of accidents and crime. He entered Parliament as Labour MP for Hendon in 1997. He has served in a number of parliamentary committees, including the Joint Committee on Human Rights, which he chairs; and the Standards and Privileges Committee. He is also involved in various political organisations, including Friends of Cyprus. His long-standing interest in the situation in Cyprus and his other interests are expressed in a number of speeches and articles which can be found in his website

As Vice Chair of Friends of Cyprus, has paid repeated visits to the island, where he met with Greek and Turkish Cypriot politicians, academics, business people and civil society personalities. Following his last visit from 26 November to 2 December 2008, he put down many parliamentary questions which when answered were fed into an adjournment debate on Cyprus on 15 January 2009, in which the Minister for Europe, Caroline Flint, MP responded on behalf of the British government.

This is an association formed by the well respected Dr Zenon Stavrinides
General Secretary, Association for Cypriot, Greek and Turkish Affairs .

The aim is to push for understanding amongst the people of Cyprus Greece and Turkey.
The participants and members come from mainly the G/C side but the numbers of T/Cs are increasing. It is an association that rightly calls it self "Association for Cypriot Greek and Turkish affairs"
Is it a non political , that may not be the case but it most certainly is not a propaganda association but one that has devoted all its efforts in helping our people to understand one another.

Association for Cypriot, Greek and Turkish Affairs

The Association for Cypriot, Greek and Turkish Affairs (ACGTA) was founded in London in February 1992 with the following aims:

to promote the development and dissemination of knowledge and understanding of contemporary social, political, economic and cultural affairs in Cyprus, Greece and Turkey so as to promote good and friendly relations between these countries;
to encourage mutual understanding and respect between the peoples of Cyprus, Greece and Turkey;
to provide a forum for discussion and exchange of social and political ideas, free from any physical, psychological, legal or other impediment
To these ends, the Association organizes conferences, symposia, seminars, lectures and other activities in which scholars, journalists, politicians, lawyers and other
persons with a special knowledge of, or interest in, Cyprus, Greece and Turkey exchange or discuss information, analyses, views and ideas.

Would I be right in saying that they would be direct if it weren't for the detour around Jerkey's airspace?

For your information Fred , there are as you know direct flights to Cyprus. If you are however , which I'm sure you are , referring to the part of Cyprus that is under occupation by Turkey then their position is exactly in accord with that of the UN , the EU and all other International organizations.

Can I land in Larnaca airport, hire a car and drive to the north, there and then? Would there be an insurance problem?
Do I have to get two insurances?
Would I be allowed to drive a hired-car to the north?

Congratulations, you are now complaining about the consequences of the Turkish invasion and partition. If any of those issues exist then you can blame your turkish brothers for dividing up this island with the use of force.
