RIGHTFUL OWNERS OF EQUIVALENT PROPERTY IN NORTH DEMAND COMPENSATION
The Association of Rightful Owners of Equivalent Property was established in November last year by a group of Turkish Cypriot rightful owners, demanding to receive compensation for their immoveable properties they had to leave in the South, in accordance with the North Cyprus constitution.
The Secretary of the Association – Mustafa Tolga- held a press briefing today to provide information about the founding goals of the Association.
Mustafa Tolga said the Association owns its primary mission as helping Turkish Cypriot rightful owners receive an equivalent immoveable property in place of their properties they had to leave behind in the South and take compensation for the loss they faced; as referred to within the North Cyprus constitution.
Noting that the Association of Rightful Owners of Equivalent Property was established on the 24th November last year after a similar society established following the situation in 1974 was dissolved, the Secretary pointed to the fact that the problem of property equivalence in the North still remains unresolved.
Also speaking at the press conference, the President of the Association Taner Dervis claimed that there has been a violation of rights of rightful owners in various executions, despite of the rule of law.
`It’s a constitutional crime` Dervis said.
Mr Dervis also spoke of an action plan prepared by the Association which envisages the prosecution of those who make executions on property equivalence that violate the constitutional law.
