45th anniversary of the Arpalik Resistance…(Ay Sozomenos)

Postby halil » Fri Feb 06, 2009 5:26 pm

Today is the 45th anniversary of the Arpalik Resistance…
5 Turkish Cypriots who were killed during the Resistance were remembered at a special ceremony at the martyrdom at the Tekke Bahce in Nicosia this morning.

The ceremony started with a minute’s silence.
In an address at the ceremony, the President of the Society of Martyrs’ and Disabled War Veterans Ertan Ersan said that Greek Cypriots attacked the Arpalik village 45 years ago with the aim of realizing Enosis, the unification of the island to Greece.

Pointing out that the Arpalik villagers sacrificed their lives to protect their Turkish identity, he reminded that Greek Cypriots attacked the village by creating the excuse that the vehicles passing near the village were fired.
He said it is very saddening that one of those killed during the attack was a 13 year old boy, named Ismail Musa.
The ceremony ended with the laying of wreaths and prayers.

It would have been 200 if Lurucina fighters didn't get there in time to rescue them.

God rest the soul of all people Turkish and Greek that were killed.
Its time to move on and have one for both sides where everybody is remembered.
Maybe then it will never happen again.
