Not a bright mentallity I should say.

first of all i will remind you because turkey controls north cyprus that is not the case with Greece and the RoC.

secondly, a veto of the GCs would be saying "You took all my fingers and are unwilling to give any back so ill just cut your hand"

Greece and Cyprus is unlikely to veto Turkey's accession to the EU. France and Austria are more likely to do so. These and other countries now understand that they cannot rely on Cyprus to do their "dirty work" by exercising the veto.
There are many countries which are openly against Turkish accession. Greece and Cyprus do not have to even concern themselves with this.

Turksih EU accesion is in the interests of all countries who border Turkey not only for business but also for stability in the region and a friendly eastern med neighbourhood in the long term. Turksih accession to the EU will be modernising for Turkey and it is better to have a modern rich and cooperative neighbourwho plays by the EU's rules than a down market thug.

It only a matter of whether Turkey wants to play by the EU's rules.

I personally think that Turkey should be allowed to accede and it may take about 20 years or so before Turkey is ready.

The result for Cyprus will be that a democratic and valid solution will be the end result of Turkey's EU accession.

The eu is about achieving status equal to any. Its about joining together to protect and compete. Now that Asia (India Pakistan Korea China etc) is about to emerge as a world major trade block and or player, Europe will decide whether Turkey will strengthen Europe, or whether Turkey will strengthen Asia.

Considering that a combined Europe does not have half the resources of China, the term no-brainer comes to mind.

I'd dispute that Gabaston... I think it's more likely that Europe will seek a cooperative relationship with China rather than antagonistic and will as such be the mediator between American antagonism towards their new 'challenger'. As for resources, Europe (if you include Russia as a potential future member of the bloc) has huge resources and also a significant technological advantage over China that will take at least a couple of generations to catch up. Therefore, for the foreseeable future, I think that the future relations between China and the EU will be solid and reasonably amicable, whereas they will continue to degenerate between China and the US.

Yes cannedmouse you're right, no one is suggesting that eu will antagonize China, or vice versa. The point I am trying to make is that Eu has first option on Turkey and Eu has the option of either making Europe or Asia more resourceful.
