Just the same as we can use the word we to mean not just a few in a room but as a society, surely we can use the word I to do the same. Especially if we are about to show our personal preference.

If only your mentality was prevalent, people would be burning on the stake for suggesting that the world is travelling around the sun rather then the other way round and Shakespeare would have been banned. He is the one who was accused of changing the English language. You see language is an evolving thing not creationist thing, dear boy.
