£8million needed to complete Robb's Cyprus property sham

By FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE ONLINE STAFF 01.FEB.09

Under the headline banner “Robb’s swindle is eight million pounds sterling”, the Turkish Cypriot daily Afrika newspaper reports that captured fugitive Gary Robb has been handed over to the Interpol, but his “secrets” still remain in northern Cyprus.

The paper notes that investigation will soon start regarding swindles, briberies, irregularities, abuse of authority and an in depth probe into the partners of Robb.

In statements to the paper, Ferdi Sabit Soyer, self-styled prime minister of the breakaway regime, said that those who bought residence from Robb are in a very difficult situation and that £8million is needed for the completion of 300 residences, which remain half finished.

Soyer noted that the British police had asked the extradition of Robb in the past, but the breakaway regime did not hand him over, because there were some issues which should have been settled in the occupied areas.

Mr Soyer argued that after the return of Robb from Thailand, he was not given the “citizenship” of the breakaway regime for the second time and added that the information that Robb was given a £3.5million credit last year is not true.

Moreover, Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Duzen newspaper reports that Ozkan Murat, self-styled minister of interior, has said that Gary Robb was given “citizenship” of the breakaway regime by the National Unity Party (UBP) “government” in 2002 and added that the Republican Turkish Party annulled this “citizenship” in 2005 and allowed him to enter into the occupied areas in 2006.

Gary Robb, 46, was sent back to Britain last week and appeared in the dock at Teesside Crown Court alongside his 71-year-old mother Mavis Robb.

No pleas were entered or bail applications made during the brief hearing.

Both have been remanded in custody until Friday, February 27. The case will return to court on that date for a directions hearing.

This is a letter from AGA BUYERS ACTION GROUP to the people of the TRNC explaining our actions and the reasoning behind it as in our protests. Please feel free to print spread it around

AGA BUYERS ACTION GROUP (ABAG)
To The People of the TRNC

We are a group of British housewives, and their families, who it would appear are causing an upset to the Construction Industry in the beautiful TRNC. Well, we are here to try to explain ourselves and hope that you understand the reasoning behind our actions.

For many years now, some since 2003, we have been waiting for either our properties to be built or a refund of our monies paid. We are all the victims of AGA Development/Gary John Robb/Tahir Soycan and numerous other Directors of AGA which currently include Cafer Gurcafer, Head of the Cyprus Turkish Building Contractors Association. We were sold villas marketed by the sales team of Unwins Estate Agents. The villas were going to be built by AGA Developments. Both these companies have British and Turkish Cypriot Directors. We were all guided legally by Turkish Cypriot lawyers as to land issues, deeds, Contracts etc.

We have given these persons over 4 years now to put right the wrongs they have caused, and we have been completely ignored. Back in April 2007 we handed in a request by over 150 AGA buyers for help from Mr Soyer - we heard nothing from his office. We have put in our complaints to the Government's Property Complaints Office, but to date none of the complaints has resulted in a refund or other solution from this Government Dept. We have written thousands of letters and emails to anyone we thought would listen, and again hit a brick wall from within the Government of the TRNC. We have visited TRNC offices in the UK and Cyprus and met with lawyers and many officials only to find a wall of silence from within the TRNC. But the interesting fact is that in all this time while looking for justice, not only for ourselves but all AGA victims, we have unwittingly collated documented evidence of high level corruption which we will at some stage release into the public domain.

We are predominantly three families who are now in serious financial trouble with no light at the end of the tunnel for the return of our monies. We are not property developers, millionaires or business people, just three ordinary families who fell in love with the TRNC and wanted to put some “roots” there. We have been accused of “cashing-in” on cheap property, but, the price that we were paying at that time was no different to those in the rest of the EU. We all fell in love with the TRNC because it is unspoilt and has some of the friendliest people in the world, warm and helpful and welcoming. However, the island is a magnet to criminals and their activities, and this has been to the cost of the TRNC and its own people, not only us. Ask yourselves how these people manage to buy the biggest houses on the island and drive the most expensive cars? You do not see the average Turkish Cypriot in a Ferrari or an equally expensive 4 x 4, no, the ordinary people of Northern Cyprus struggle to find work and keep a roof over their heads - the same as ordinary people in the rest of Europe. Could this be due to the high level corruption that we have seen to exist in the TRNC? We do not wish to interrupt the business dealings of those honest business people who promote all that is good in the TRNC, but unless we make ourselves heard we will continue to be ignored and lose everything we have worked hard for in our lives. Interest rates in Britain are rising fast and we are all paying a huge amount of money every month for something that we do not have and are unlikely to have, whilst various directors of AGA take delivery of brand new cars on a regular basis.

You may ask yourselves as to why we have not taken the legal route in the TRNC. The straight answer to that is we have. One of our group actually has a Judgement, which was granted in April 2005. To date they cannot get anyone to enforce this Judgement. You have to ask why no one can enforce this Judgement?? We have evidence of three lawyers that cannot seem to enforce it. Another has been awaiting a Judgement since Oct 2005 - this family are still awaiting news on this Judgement after 2 years. We therefore have very little faith in the legal system of the TRNC, and now the British High Commission has stepped in to monitor the effectiveness of this legal system - to see if in fact it does exist for ordinary people, or is it a one-way street for those in good favour of the TRNC Government or other influential type bodies that seem to exist within Northern Cyprus?? Time will tell, we hope to be proved wrong.

We as AGA BUYERS ACTION GROUP cannot afford to be still and quiet any longer, we are fighting for the survival of our families. Our families are suffering and we want a stable family life just like everybody does. All we ask is for a refund of what we have paid, what has been stolen from us. We are starting to make waves now; this wave we hope will become a tsunami as our media campaign grows. Why is the Government so short sighted? Why can’t the Government see that we could also be a bonus to the TRNC and promote it as a safe haven in which to purchase a property? We could help the Tourist Industry to boom again, we have gained the knowledge and the experience to do this, but unless we are being seen to be helped, we can only fight for what is rightfully ours, and this in conclusion could have a wider implication on damaging the TRNC economy. We do not want to hurt anybody, especially innocent people like ourselves who are just trying to make the best of their lives. So we apologise to the innocent people of the TRNC but we hope that you understand from what we have said, our need to be seen and heard; after all we are only trying to safeguard our futures and as a lioness does, protect her pride from danger.

The Northern Cyprus Government must shoulder a lot of blame regarding the corruption. They know the outcome of Police Investigations into missing funds regarding AGA Development, and have not published anything, or indeed not one person has been brought to justice for what they have done to both UK and Turkish Cypriot people, this is not ACCEPTABLE IN ANY CIVILISED SOCIETY. We urge Ferdi Sabit Soyer, Prime Minister of the TRNC, to stand by his statement that the construction sector is important to him and that "FOREIGNERS CAN KEEP CONFIDENCE....AND MAY COMFORTABLY PURCHASE HOUSES FROM THIS COUNTRY". If this is not the case, Mr Soyer and his Government should issue a statement to that effect so people are aware that there is no TRNC commitment to its foreign buyers and its construction industry. If you wish to see the full extract of the publication, "North Cyprus, A Comprehensive Guide to Buying Your Home, by the Cyprus Turkish Building Contractors Association". where Mr Soyer, and other officials make promises they appear to not want to keep, please contact us at the below PO Box number or at [email protected]. It will be our pleasure to send this to you. The same publication states that if members of the Association do not adhere to its strict standards "THE PENALTY THAT THE LAW REQUIRES IS IMPRISONMENT". AGA Developments Limited is listed as a member - as far as we are aware not one Director has been prosecuted with any offence, even though hundreds of people have lost millions of UK pounds. They are allowed to walk freely while their customers suffer.

If anyone has any information that could help us in our plight to expose any corruption, information that we can add to that which we already have, you can send it anonymously to:

Looks like this mother has brought her son up like herself ... the wrong way!

I wonder whether they will be allowed "time-out" to visit each other in their separate, individual prisons

FOLLOWING months of deafening silence from the Cyprus Government, the Cyprus Property Action Group (CPAG) has today released its report Cyprus Property Pitfalls: a time for ACTION.

CPAG also calls on those who have been scammed by the rogues and conmen in the Cyprus property industry to write to their MEPs and MP urging them to exert pressure on the Cypriot authorities to ensure their property rights.

Established in 2007, CPAG is a pressure group dedicated to creating awareness within the industry and Government of the problems buyers may face as a result of buying property in Cyprus and lobbying for change.

In the latter part of 2007, and at the request of the then Finance Minister Michalis Sarris, CPAG prepared a report. This detailed the problems faced by Cypriot and non-Cypriot property buyers together with suggestions as to how those problems could be resolved.

CPAG delivered its report to Minister Sarris on 3rd January 2008. Mr Sarris replied, “I would like to refer to your letter dated January 2nd, 2008, and to thank you for sharing with us the Report “Cyprus Property Pitfalls”. We found the Report very useful and we are in the process of analyzing its content and concrete suggestions. I look forward to continuing the dialogue on this issue, shortly on the basis of the results of this analysis which we expect to complete by the end of March 2008.”

Following the 2008 elections, which resulted in Minister Sarris being replaced in office, CPAG sent their report to the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Justice and Minister of Finance. Since that time the Cyprus Government has neither refuted the contents of the report, nor has it shown the common courtesy to respond formally.

Government pronouncements

Sunday’s report, Property buyers get one finger salute from Government, clearly demonstrates that the Government of Cyprus would rather turn a blind eye to the illegal activities of property developers and others, than take assertive action to protect the rights of property buyer.

This, in a so-called civilised country that is a member of the EU, is totally unacceptable!

In light of this revelation and the Cyprus Government’s reluctance to enter into any form of meaningful dialogue to resolve the many property problems, the Cyprus Property Action Group has decided to make their report generally available and urges all those with property issues in Cyprus to write to their MEP, MP and Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Get your copy of the Cyprus Property Action Group’s report by clicking on: Cyprus Property Pitfalls: a time for ACTION.

Write to your MP, MEP and Gordon Brown

The Cyprus Property Action Group urges all those who:

do not have their Title Deeds;
have been exploited and coerced into paying illegal Immovable Property Tax, contract cancellation fees, etc. whilst in the Title Deed trap;
believe that what happens in Cyprus has no place in the EU!
to write to their Euro MP (www.europarl.org.uk for British citizens or www.europarl.europa.eu for other EU nationals).

British nationals are also urged to write to their MP and to the Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Contact details can be found on the UK Government website at www.parliament.uk

What should I write?

Your letters should urge your MP and MEP to put pressure on national Government (MP) or the EU (MEP) specifically to:

Exert pressure on Cyprus to adhere to the Constitution of Cyprus in protecting all buyers’ property rights.
That Cyprus should also follow EU and UN charters on the protection of property rights, copies of which follow this message.
That in the event of a developer defaulting on a mortgage that the buyers’ property rights are no longer handed to the lender bank on a plate.
Specifically, that the Government of Cyprus should guarantee every sales contract which has been officially lodged with the Land Registry, even in the event of a developer defaulting. (N.B. - let us not forget that they are currently standing behind the local banks with guarantees on bank deposits).
That the Cyprus Government should be forced into developing a strategy and timetable for transfers of all outstanding Title Deeds.
The Cyprus Property Action Group has prepared draft letters, copies of which you can request by clicking here.

"Corrupted Society" is a place where corruption starts at the very very top and works it's way all the way down to the common man on the street. Nothing good ever comes out of such places, other than Morally Corrupted and HARAM money rich people at the top and their corrupted foot soldiers at the bottom with few dollars in their pockets. There are wanted fugitives given "trnc" citizenships to avoid being extradited to counties where offences took place. How much money was taken from these criminals to sell them a "trnc" passport, because they sure as hell did not qualify for one otherwise on merit. How many thousands of people had gotten "trnc" passports with criminal records, but since the price was right, they were issued one anyway. Who made all these monies from such activities.? My guess is, by those officials who are at the very very top. These people have been riding the HARAM train long enough and have been an obstacle to peace in Cyprus because of their personal GREED. Enough is Enough. All these corrupted official should and must be imprisoned as soon as the HARAM train pulls into the next station, as soon as a settlement is reached. Immunities should not be granted during these settlement talks for such corrupted officials. Karma from HARAM is their destiny, so let them meet their destiny in PRISON.!
