Why didn't Turkey just take the whole island in 1974 and tell the whole world to piss off. I dont understand what stopped them.

Not much to do with the Cyprus Problem, but have always wondered this.

Because if they did such thing it would be much harder for them to perform ethnic cleansing. Cyprus is an island (so people can not escape to another country) and killing us all would not be easy.

If they occupied the whole Cyprus they would have to deal with us on a daily basis and they would have the kind of problems the Israelis have with the Palestinians.

Partition was what Turkey wanted, and it was what has been agreed with USA and with some people in the CIA supported junta that ruled Greece at that time. The only thing that was not agreed was to occupy famagusta, but since they found it empty the took it in order to give it back later on as part of an agreement. (this is what they were planning anyways)

You are disillusioned. 31 years passed since the invasion 74. Turkey is still illegaly occuping one third of Cyprus in order to protect TCs, right? Whatever dude.

yes Main Source, there have been casualties of war, like in every other war, but the prime purpose was to protect Tc's. not to inflict harm on gc's.

If turkey wanted to harm greeks there are plenty enough in Istanbul, living prosperous lives, without launching a full scale invasion, and loosing thousands of her own soldiers. If you dont believe me go to Istanbul and see for yourself. Greek restaurant in the middle of Kapali Carsi (covered bazaar) - The very heart of Istanbul itself, proudly flying Greek and Turkish flags side by side - go re and see.

oh by the way please tell us the official RoC statistic for the number of Gc women raped?
