Property in N. Cyprus owned by Greek Cypriot

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Property in N. Cyprus owned by Greek Cypriot

Postby pzale » Mon Feb 02, 2009 7:23 pm

A relative of my wife owns property at The Village by the Sea in N. Cyprus. I have done some research on the issue and found that there may be some kind of compensation for Greek Cypriots who own property they were forced off of if reunification happens, even if they don't get the property back, but I don't know much more than that. Perhaps there's not much more to know yet??? I'm wondering if someone here had some answers or could direct me to a place where I might find some.

Thanks you in advance.

I think I may have said things unclearly. My relative is the one who owns the land pre-1974. He lost it in the invasion. I'm wondering what his chances are of either getting it back or getting compensation. As you say, it depends on the deal. :)

If there's a deal and its near Famagusta or Morphou there's a chance you'll get it back. If they don't strike a deal take them to Strasburg like the rest of us.

There is a TRNC property commision you can apply to, it's just not promoted that well. If you contact the TRNC representitve in Trafalgar SQ they will have the details on where and how to apply.
There has been some positive results recently.

There is no such thing as "trnc" property commission.

Turkey established some property commission in the territory of Republic of Cyprus that they illegally occupy in order to try to delay the cases against her in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). This Turkish property commission will only give to you peanuts.

Take your case directly to the ECHR.

The Government of The TRNC had no right to sell land land that belonged to Greek Cypriots.

It was an international fraud on a grand scale.

The legality of this action will only be determined by what they agree to accept as "the truth"

on any settlement that comes out of "The Reunification Talks"

Mr Talat.....many are holding there breath. Do Turkey stand by their actions in respect of The TRNC, or will they accept that they are guilty of an International fraud, that leaves the likes of Garry Robb, as little more than kindergarden amateurs.

Your call Mr Talat.

Your reaction is totally expected. You oppose it on the grounds that TRNC is given some legitimacy. By applying, what have they got to loose. At worst they can reject the offer and still take the route you suggested. The GC government tried legal and illegal means to stop GCs from applying. Everyone is free to do as they wish.
