This is a continuation of the string on the TRNC flag, which has turned into something different, so please forgive me for opening a new string to voice my questions.
As, believe it or not, a foreigner and a self-proclaimed 'neutral' on the Cyprus problem, I would like the GC's in the forum to explain further the reasoning behing the illegality rhetoric. Both in terms of what you personally think, and in terms of what the government policy is.
I understand that TRNC and its flag are illegal. I also understand that all public offices in the North are illegal. including, of course, the title deeds they issue. But the more I think about this situation, the more ludicrous the consequences are. In theory, the RoC could punish me for any kind of interaction with the government...
- paying a fine for speeding in the North
- visiting a hospital
- passing the 'border' and showing my passport
- using a TRNC driver's license
- using a TRNC registered car (especially in the South)
Obviously, the law is not implemented in these cases. But what I do not understand is: why implement the law when it comes to property or flags, but not here? If the RoC says that TRNC is illegal in theory, but that it is countenanced for practical purposes only, that is one thing. But it isn't.
What do you think?
