With the final rejection of the CTFA, the proposed merger of it to the CFA is now dead. If sport can not be a reconciling factor, then how can anything being negotiated between President Kristofas and Mehmet Ali Talat hope to succeed?
The key to the failure if the CFA/CTFA negotiations - judging from the press reports - is that the definition of "autonomy" is being interpreted differently by either side (what autonomy for the CTFA would the CFA allow, and under what circumstances the CFA would step in on). And since the negotiations between Kristofas and Talat are also bogging down as to the degree of autonomy of the Turkish Cypriot State in a federal setup, the CFA/CTFA failure can be seen (at least IMHO) as a harbinger for the result of the unification talks...
