Indeed - very though provoking. Thanks for posting it.
My perspective on some of the issues raised.
For me both the French and the Anglo American systems are both shades of the same basic polticial philosphy. I see both as 'captialist'. Certainly the French lean towards a slightly more 'social' form of capitalism that the 'anglo - amercians' but to me they are just shades of an overwealmingly capitalist colour.
For me global (relevant) global distinctions are less about 'east' and 'west' whatever meaning they have. For me the relevant distinctions (globaly and internaly) are between the haves and the have nots. I am of the view that the haves, despite all they have, are persuing ultimately dead end ideals that have no long term future. For me the hope and expectation that humanity will find a new 'golden age' (and stave off its own destruction) lies with the have nots. Be they have nots of the east or the west or of any particular religous persuasion or culture. It I might be so bold as to paraphrase JC and sermonise - blessed are the have nots for truely it is in them that the salvation of humanity on earth lies. Apologies for that if anyone find it offesnive or self rightgeaous or hypocritical (for truely I am a have and not a have not).
