Translation of the above article:

Bakırköy Public Prosecutor Ali Çakır has opened an investigation into the famous cinema and stage actor Atilla Olgaç who claimed to have killed 10 Greek Cypriots, one of whom was a prisoner, in the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation and then retracted his statement.

Should Public Prosecutor Çakır find Olgaç guilty as a result of his investigation, the file will be forwarded via the Ministry of Justice International Law General Directorate to the Geneva War Crimes Court.

In the course of the investigation into Olgaç, who cannot be prosecuted in Turkey after 35 years have elapsed, it will be determined whether he killed a Greek Cypriot prisoner of war. If it is established that Olgaç killed a Greek Cypriot prisoner of war, he will be prosecuted for committing a 'war crime'.

Under these circumstances, Olgaç will be the first Turk to be tried at the Geneva War Crimes Court.

If there was no Ergenekon, I would bet that he would be found innocent of charges brought against him. Now, I am not too sure. Lets all hope that Justice is done.

It all sounds quite promising, in theory, and at face value you would think that Turkey is trying to address this very serious issue.

However, there is no way the Generals will ever allow Olgac to be found guilty of any crime against the Geneva Convention. If justice is done and the investigation is not manipulated to cover up the crime, then I predict that this public prosecutor will be mysteriously assassinated.

still...it could well be a manoeuvre to fulfill legal obligations.
I cannot see him being found guilty cos this will open a large can of worms.

Seems like they're in a hurry to pre-empt the Cypriot legal action. The fact that Oli Rehn a known friend of Turkey and enlargement commissioner of the EU came out so quickly with a strong statement must of been a shock for Turkey.

Erdogan was asked regarding the possible prosecution of Olgac and he said that since the guy stated that what he said in public is just a scenario then there is no charge against him!
...and this comes from the PM of a country that wants to enter EU! ...and this comes from the PM of a country that wants to be considered civilized!

...and it clearly shows the quilt of Tr regarding the fate of 1.619 missing Gcs. Tr doesn't even want to touch that chapter of the history but sooner or later he will have to deal with it.
