WEll after 37 years in Cyprus ive had enough.There has always been a 2 tier system 1 for Cypriots and 1 for Foreigners.At one time Cypriots got Discounts on Cyrpus airways but WE COULD NOT.
There have always been 2 Menu Prices 1 for Cypriots and 1 for foreigners.I have seen in my time back handers given to cusstoms for all kinds of things. NONE Cypriots pay the price for living there and building up Cyprus.I lost my house in Famgausta in 74 .I recently had a car accident was insured fully comp and during the court case was asked how much income tax i had paid as it had a bearing onthe claim ( I was the injured party ) Had I been Cypriot I am sure my award would have been more it did not even cover medical expenses Plus the price of the car.Ive had enough of being ripped off hand losing on average 20% of my money just for being there.
Suppose now we will have to pay for Cyprus to be in the EU.And one last thing
I had to laugh.
I left the Island last week from Larnaca and there's a billboard saying Stop huma trafficing in sex etc etc etc what a laugh ITS RIFE in Cyprus
Even a blind man can see it.Must be one of the most Corrupt Administrations in the EU.
I bid a Costly farewell to that island.Enough is Enough

In my 30 something years here I can only believe that I have been very stupid in not noticing this discrimination between Cypriots and foreigners. The only time I have noticed a difference in the way I was treated compared to a Cypriot was when there was a logical reason for it, like originally needing a work permit, special permission to open a bank account (long time ago), not getting a particular job because I didn't speak Greek (also a long time ago).

I find it hard to understand you sticking it out here for 37 years and now deciding it is a terrible place. I can only think that some sort of crisis has occurred which has soured Cyprus for you.

Also, as Purdey said above, where are you going that will be better?

So you are broke , no need to be ashamed of that , most Brits are nowadays .
There is unfortunately a lot of truth in what you say , double standards do exist I dont know about double menus though or double justice.

My English wife , who looks very English and does not speak Greek has been visiting Cyprus for more than 40 years , sometimes staying on her own with my family. Never once did she become the victim of anti English behaviour , presented with a rip off menu in a restaurant or faced any situations where being English was to her disadvantage.
Taxis do overcharge the foreigners , that I found out my self in Paphos recently and I was disgusted .
Like most countries Cyprus does have its problems but compared to the biggest con nation on earth , Brittain , Cyprus is squeaky clean.
Here is an example . My brother was in Cyprus in September last year when XL airlines collapsed. He had flown with them and , just as many did , was repatriated from Larnaca airport by presenting his return ticket with XL.
He has just received a letter by , I forget the exact name of the organization , I will post it when I get to the office , demanding £250.00 for the return journey. Bloody crooks !!

ps. Mate after 37 years you should be a bloody Cypriot !!
