I knew something was smelly when I first got the inquiry from a James Wilson for products that he saw on our web site. It's the same modus operandi that he used to me and I am attaching the e-mail that he sent me and my reply to him.

These thieves will not stop at anything! I got suspicious immediately when I read the letter with the usual style of writing that you get from the so called Nigerian scammers. well, here it goes:

Hi James,

As I have previously mentioned, we do not accept non-U.S. credit card payments. Also, as for your freight forwarder, we will ship the merchandise to them but we prefer that you deal with them as far as shipping cost and terms are concerned. In other words, I deal with your company for the cost of merchandise and freight going to your freight forwarder. We do not want to have anything to do with a freight forwarder as far as payment is concerned.

Please get back to me on this matter so we can process your order quickly. You can have your forwarder pick up the merchandise from our warehouse in Farmingdale, NY or I can ship the merchandise to them. I will charge you for the cost of the merchandise plus the freight to wherever they are.

We will only accept a wire transfer or a U.S. issued credit card with a form that the credit holder has to fill out and sign, and subjected to verification and approval of the issuing card company. I hope you understand.

Carlos

Are you serious ?
If every time you received such requests and reported them the police would charge you for wasting police time . There are litteraly thousands of these scams . The funny thing is that this money will hit our account sometime next week and then will bounce out a week later .!!!

A slight variation on the standard scams, but you would think they would try to write English less like a Nigerian!

This guy is supposedly in Dubai and the head of a large chain of bakery shops .
I have had a similar one about 2 weeks ago only that time the guy was in the Netherlands buying for a chain of supermarkets items such as refrigeration and food prep equipment. We always respond and forward pro forma invoices . On one occasion I had a "draft" from a religious organization in the USA in the sum of $50.000.00 , he wanted me to send to an address in Ghana $5000.00 which was an overpayment from his remittance . We did not bother to bank the draft since a little search revealed that the genuine Christian organization in the States , whose name appeared on the "draft" knew nothing about it.
As far as this recent one the scenario develops so:
Our bank account will be credited with the sum in question , it will be naturally a fraudulent lodgement that the bank will discover within a matter of days. What this scamer is hoping is that we will rush to pay the "overpayment" he will request that we pay either by Western Union or CHAPS so that once our money gets into his pocket it can not be taken away .!!!!

You'll love these sites....

http://www.thescambaiter.com/
http://www.419eater.com/

Not only do they respond to the scammers, they waste their time by making them do ridiculous exercises involving photos and videos..... i do believe one actually managed to get the scammer to pay for a fridge to Nigeria

Miltiades,
Thanks (from the States) for taking all the time to post this story. We're self-employed signmakers, and received a request for banners and flyers from "Rev. Wilson". My wife had already begun the research, obtaining the shipping weights, and almost compiling the quote before I decided to Google "Fun Lin Foundation Center", and came up with your post. Aside from the time we spent reading this thread, at least we haven't lost anymore of our valuable time on this matter. Such a bummer as we sure could have used a big order like this one at the moment. Back to focusing on the real jobs at hand.

Thanks again and best of luck to you.
