Ungrateful Cypriots did not appreciate Tassos Papadopoulos
A TEARY Archbishop Chrysostomides lashed out at the Cypriot people on Sunday over their “ingratitude” towards former President Tassos Papadopoulos for saving them from the Annan plan.
The Church leader’s outburst took place during a memorial service to mark the 40 days since the death of the former President, which was attended by political figures and Papadopoulos` family and friends.
“Papadopoulos saved Cyprus and its status as a state from collapse,” said Chrysostomos. Referring to the “ingratitude” of the Cypriot people, he added: “This is the fate of great people (Papadopoulos) and we have many examples in history. I hope Tassos is the last.”
Ministers, deputies, diplomats and the House President were among those present at Ayios Nicolaos Church in Kato Deftera, where Papadopoulos is buried.
