President Obama's first 100 days, will Cyprus feature ?

Postby miltiades » Wed Jan 21, 2009 12:05 am

Many expect President Obama to be sympathetic to Cyprus and instrumental in encouraging a solution to the Cyprob.
My own opinion on the matter is that Cyprus is the last thing in Obama's list of priorities faced with the daunting prospects of pulling out of Iraq , defeating the Taliban , tackling the Palestinian / Israel issue , dealing with Iran and tackling the worst economic crises the USA and the world has faced since the thirties and the depression.
Will he take a leading role in the process of finding a solution to the Cyprus problem? I do not think so .

Cyprus could be the last thing on his list, but that may be enough. More important is that he does not present any obstacles to a solution.

Further more, if he only serves to restrict Turkey's "power" and undue demands in the region, that should suffice.

The rest is up to us and the EU.

I am more interested in him getting 30,000 troops to Afghanistan and sorting out the Taliban.

Spot on. The Cyprus Problem is just not that important.

Also given the current talks that are more Cypriot owned than ever before then all he and the EU etc need do is say they support the talks, which of course they have all said.

Why is that? :? Have the mountain peasants in turbans dented your pride? Weren’t they standing still long enough for you to get a good aim from high above?

No GR, I was there last year, twice. I did not like been shot at and seeing my collegues shot, and then watching them running into local villages and hiding behind young girls.
It helps to be on the ground and on amongst it GR, you get a feel for the people and see what is actually going on. As I have said to you before I don't read comics or watch war films.

They were too preoccupied with shooting women that were not fully "de-vaginalized ", or young men who dared shaved their beards !! Your Taliban mates that is !

Apparently the sentence for colouring your hair is ... DEATH
For a man , just 40 lashes !!

If you don't like being shot at don't go where you don't bloody belong!

and then watching them running into local villages and hiding behind young girls.

Oh dear! Why is everyone always hiding behind girls, babies, and grannies, while you lot are just out there like Rambo???

What's the secret to your bravery?

Oh good! Did you also see all the locals who hate your guts and want to rip you apart?

No problem with the locals GR, they feel more hatred for the Taliban than we do.The locals were grateful for medical treatment, food and protection, I saw no hatred. You need to get out there GR you read far to many comics. As for Rambo you know fuck all about what I or my collegues do, and yes I do consider the men and women I work with as brave.
