paliometoxo, and ALL!
no i dont really travel to england much...
You must be one of the many turkish cypriots living in london along side with the greek cypriots, ive never seen so much hate from a tc living in england.. but saying that i dont really know the papers in cyprus either, only read the news online..

Firstly, before I answer your above posting paliometoxo, may I just confirm that I AM NOT Nick Kochan - So for those of you trying to get in touch with him or starting some bogus campaign, you're simply barking up the wrong tree.

paliometoxo,
Yes! I am one of those many Turkish Cypriots living with, and have grown up with those Greek Cypriots of London. In fact, I have many close Greek Cypriot friends in the UK - Very good people, as compared to some of the brainwashed ones in Cyprus - unfortunately!

The FT (Financial Times) is not a Newspaper I favour to ever work for very much - try again. By the way, I also do not have a typical Turkish Cypriot name; you'll have to know all of the diverse Turkish name to find me, and even then I am untouchable!

As for my so-called Hate, as you've said, I beg to differ. In actual fact paliometoxo, I have no hate against any Greek Cypriot(s) what so ever. I understand most of your arguements and respect my close Greek Cypriot friends greatly. However, my stance on the TRNC and on the Cyprus issue in general, which I obviously do not portray in my writings as I do not cover Cyprus (in my profession), stems from my personal experience - only.

Here goes:
While growing up in London, as a person who always regarded himself as a "Turkish Cypriot", this was always mocked or played down by the Greek Cypriots due to their official claim of the entire island whenever there were any school world flag ceremony days or a presentation of countries of the world. We, Turkish Cypriots, had to always pick Turkey and not Cyprus - it's only now that we can as not being part of the GC Controlled ROC! Once the TRNC was established in 1983, even though it was not internationally accepted by all countries, all Schools and Colleges in the UK still allowed the use of its flag and its "Geographical" reference under a state as part of an island in conflict. This was a huge development for us and we were, for the first time, able to point to the world map and say that "Similar to many unrecognised countries and states of the world like Taiwan and etc, I come from the TRNC, and here is my country flag and not the one used by the Greek Cypriots".

Obviously this gained even more grounding after its official inclusion as one of the State flags of the Annan Plan in 2004, even though my university education was long completed (decades) by then.

As for my Greek Cypriot friends in London, I am very happy to say that they understand that the Turkish and Greek Cypriots would be ultimately better off if an overall agreement to the Cyprus problem was based on a Confederation or on Two Republic states - probably due to their more advanced understanding of the practical elements/ and workings of living in the European Union for decades and how the UK works better as England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (four countries united under one umbrella, but all equally independent and have their own parliaments).

Finally, many of my Greek Cypriot friends agree that the Greek Cypriots at home (as they say) are brainwashed and block a peaceful solution due to their ideology that Cyprus should be united as one - they know, probably due to how things work in the UK, that the Scottish, Welsh, English or Irish would never give up their independence (Independent States) for a United Republic of England!

ONe problem in your theory matey.

The Welsh lived in Wales for centuries
The Scots lived in Scotland for centuries

Northern Cyprus was the home of a majority of Greek Cypriots. The Turk in my house in Morphou does not belong there.

You have never had a pre-defined area of Cyprus to carve out for yourselves.
