ARMY SERVICE

Postby sylvia » Mon Jan 19, 2009 12:47 am

Can anyone help with an army conscription question. A 17 year old with a cypriot father born in England. If he comes to live in Cyprus will he have to do the army full term or will he have to do 6 months or none at all. Thanks :?

thanks for that. I dont suppose you know or have any links regarding the importation and registration of used cars for repatriates. The document I brought up was dated 6th July 1996. Cant find a later one.

I don't think it makes any difference now if you are a repatriate. Just search for the posts on here about bringing vehicles from the UK.

Anything the Government does for a repatriating Cypriot they have to do for any EU citizen, other wise it is discriminatory.

Any EU person coming to live in Cyprus does not pay any duty on their vehicle, just registrationm which is the same for all.

Hi, i'm a new member, nice site.
This link has provided a lot of information but i have a few more questions.
I'm an english born cypriot (father is cypriot)... i would like to move to cyprus and i'm aware about the 6 months military service.
My main queries are, when can you enrol? i understand that it's jan & july, are there specific dates? I'm in cyprus now, and intend to go back home and if possible come back in time for enrollment, so i'm wondering how long i have to sort everything out. I'm going to be cutting it quite fine. :o
What will i need to bring with me? i read somewhere i need proof i've lived overseas, school/university documents etc

Thanks in advance

I'd advise you to enrol in July rather than with the arfaes in January. Its a stigma you'll never be able to shake off. Usually all the high school drop outs enroll in January.

This one seems to set it out quite clearly in relation to Length of Military Service for Repatriates

Gives a little table

http://www.cy4za.com/army.htm

with regard to enlistment dates

Immediately after arrival in Cyprus and before enlistment those concerned should present themselves at the Enlistment Office of the District in which they were born, or for those born abroad the Enlistment Office of the District were they will reside. They will then be provided with a Notice of Enlistment for the next enlistment (January or July).
