How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

A soldier goes mad and starts emptying his rifle into the air.....Al Capone shows us the corruption at the top. TCs attacked for political gain......

Vp and I have been told that our fears are not justified.....

RW wants to put us in enclaves where another siege mentality will force rival gangs to form in light of this incident and others like it.....

Is there anyone left that is so blinded by their need for unification that they ignore the signals for the future of the TC people???

Does this police "cleanup" have anyting to do with political nepotism?

DT posted this,"......If they don't get rid of that incompetent bufoon the Chief of Police and his incompetent brother in the national guard then they won't be doing anything.". Do you think this stinks of nepotism is is Cyprus too small an island.

Because it is so small, everyone knows everyone else, so whenver an appointment is made even if it is not based on nepotism, it is always easy to justify that it was.

Regarding the Chief of Police, nobody can believe he got the job on merit!

That says it all. I mean these incidents are designed to split the island. No TC will have the already damaged confidence after these attacks.

However, I for one think Turk-TCs should not be allowed into the free areas - so readily - until they are prepared to relinquish occupation of the north. We have enough reminders of the harm they have caused us without having them parade their "freedom", to come and go, shopping, wining and dining etc., as though everything is hunky-dory .....

The fact is they are as citizens of the island. Once they are allowed, they have the right to be safe in the EU. True or false?

I am not disputing their citizenship, you don't automatically lose such a right no matter the severity of your crime. And yes all wrong-doers still deserve full protection. None of these have been compromised. Incidents like this happen, even in countries where the majority of citizens are not suffering from daily taunts (flag) from the enemy occupants and their accomplices.

Citizenship and safety are truly as assured as can be (despite altercations - which are still far less, than most other European Capitals experience over a weekend!).

I'm thinking it's just possible negotiations may have progressed further, if the TCs weren't so happy and confident that things are moving towards "normality" for them; enjoying full access in this way to all the best of the "west", and then back home again, to their illegally acquired "extras".

Deniz,

It is a well known fact that public service jobs in Cyprus are not awarded on merit but are dependent on which party membership you hold.

I couldn't care less about the Chief of Police, but if this "cleanup" has anything to do with nepotism, where officers are sacked just because they are not AKEL members, then these officers have every right to be disgruntled. However, they did go overboard by attacking innocent Omonia fans.

I simply asked whether this "cleanup" has anything to do with nepotism, and I was not condoning the violence. Nepotism exists in all countries, however in Cyprus it is rampant.
