Thanks everyone, I spoke to a "bird man" this morning who said there are no sanctuaries for birds here, he did however give me some advice. He recommends keeping it until its flight feathers grow back (at least 2 weeks) and in the meantime try and get it to eat and drink. It ate nothing yesterday, however the "bird man" suggested raw chicken liver, and he really liked it, - so, so far so good. As to why it has it's wings clipped - it seems it may have been done to tame the bird, but I know of no falconry here. Perhaps its a macho thing? You know like owning a pit-bull or something? As far as I know they are protected and as such it is illegal to own them - but who knows? Thanks again for the concern and advice. I will try and take a picture before my friend takes it to their (pet-less) house - (my big dog would not rest until it was scared to death I am sure).

If it is 'illegal' (as it is here in the UK) I wonder if there is any wisdom of reporting your benevolent actions to some authority.

Glad you have had some help. Keep your lovely dog away from it though.

Paphiakos will take it, I am quite sure, if you are prepared to make the journey to Paphos. Phone them to make sure. As I have said, be aware that they regularly euthanise animals they are unable to take care of.

But surely something like a hawk, when mended, will be released back into the wild - no long-term care required.

This one's wings are apparently clipped. I don't know if that makes a difference.

In a young bird, the flight feathers grow back quite quickly. Older birds can take a while. But if both wings were clipped, it should be able to fly by just flapping harder.

It's worse if only one wing has been clipped as they lose balance (don't know if they fly around in circles :? ).

Thanks everyone, I would love to see it fly away........ Oracle, I was thinking along the same lines as you and then someone said if it has been reared from a chick it won't know how to hunt? I think I will see what it is like in a couple of weeks (if it lives) and maybe could get it to that Sanctuary Tim mentioned. I will keep you all posted!!

I don't know if, technically speaking, you are allowed to transport live birds across the line.
