This is ok because you have TWO SUCCESSIVE ACTIONS making the use of the word "subsequent" valid!

As Cyprus was under Venetian occupation the sentence does refer to "more than one occupation" and is correct and it certainly does not mean the attacks in 1570 which you replied with. It refers to the way the Ottoman treated the inhabitants of the island AFTER it conquered it. Get it clown?

In written English you cannot have ASSUMED portions of text to justify mistakes like a sentence that starts with… “The subsequent invasion…”

Have a look at this example below where I’ve replaced the word “subsequent” with “consecutive” to make you feel better…

“The consecutive occupation was successful.”

This is wrong because it doesn’t tell us what it’s consecutive to! We cannot leave it up to the reader to ASSUME anything!

“The invasion and consecutive occupation was successful.”

This is ok as there is nothing assumed!
