Want to work in Nicosia and learn Greek

Postby Tommy27 » Sat Jan 17, 2009 3:17 am

Does anyone help me to find a job in Nicosia. I am a guy 27 years old, living in Nicosia north, having a EU (Kypriaki Dimokratia) citizenship, having a diploma of bachelor degree in Business Admin., trained for business in EU, experienced 2 years in sales, customer service and marketing fields, having a driving license / personal car, and very good looking presentable person. But my Greek is just beginner level.
It is not necessary to be a well paid, complicated job, I want to learn Greek and improve myself. I can teach Turkish if anywhere interested. Thank you for reading this message.

The Department of Labour…

Government positions…

NB: Publications of positions in the Civil Service are only posted in Greek since they all require Good Knowledge of Greek as a minimum qualification.

Consider registering with the Department of Labour, they'll search for suitable jobs for you via their computer system and you may be entitled to unemployment benefit. Ask them. I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you for your caring. I have checked these web sites before. I need to register job vacancy online system, I would probably make it on this Monday. But, do you know what I should do if I want to work in a private sector? I checked HR companies and offering online jobs sites but they all demand fluent Greek.
For example, can't I find a company that needs a Turkish customer care representative? It is weird that there are many TC customers in all Cyprus market but nobody cares customer service.
Or something that doesn't need Greek language in short term, because in long term, I believe I can learn it fast with a motivation and obligation.
Anyway, I made a headache on you. Thank you anyway, I'll keep searching.

Here is an idea. Find out which products and services Turkish Cypriots usually buy in the south. Then find out which companies sell those products. Then go to those companies and tell them that you could manage a marketing campaign for them aiming at the Turkish Cypriot customers and also provide customer support to them.

See the problems caused by speaking Turkish, instead of a decent language

Oracle, you are being provocative. I won't tell you how Turkish language is decent and it is one of republic's official language. The problem is being not too common in south. And Republic doesn't demand it to be an official language in EU. This is a long story about politics. But you gonna see that Cypriot companies will understand the importance of Turkish now or late. Coz it is all about money and profit from TC customers.

Sotos, it sounds clever, I thought the same but I wanna work in a fulltime proper job. Also by telling them a marketing campaign by yourself makes me feel a bit begging for a job.

You would have more success if you spoke Mandarin than Turkish.

As for making money from TCs ... any with money to spend, are likely to speak English or even Greek ... the rest (Turkish-speaking Settlers) are akin to untouchables.

Oracle, you know what I like in south? For example while shopping or in a good restaurant or even while I'm driving...The countenance of astonishment! I like to see GC's faces while I am talking Turkish loudly. Their eyes exactly say: 'he can't be Turkish, how nice, he seems good looking and smart, how he can be Turkish?
The reason of that: GC does not expect that Turks can be civilized, modern and intelligent.
Also, don't disdain Turkish speaking settlers. They forced to settle this island. Also, they just wanted to live with higher standards. I know that it is a bad thing to settle on the lands which you don't have but they found a hole and penetrated just to live better.
By the way, I was also born and grew up in Ankara, Turkey. I am one of the rare person that Turkiye is written on his Kypriaki Dimokratia ID card. More than ten years, I am living in Cyprus and I feel that I am Cypriot. If I even manage to increase the average of Turkish people over GCs, if I can contribute the belief of GCs that Turkish people are good, I am happy. I got many Greek and GC friends.
Even you do accept it or not, Turkish is one of Cyprus's culture aspect. But being provocative is in your soul.
Thank you for ideas anyway.

Can't you learn Greek first and then get a job in the free areas of the RoC? :?
