FURORE OVER MINISTER DEMETRIOU, AGAIN!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

FURORE OVER MINISTER DEMETRIOU, AGAIN!

Postby Bananiot » Fri Jan 16, 2009 9:07 pm

This is a most strange country. The Minister of Education and Culture, Andreas Demetriou, has been at the epicentre of an orchestrated attack by EDEK (sosialist?), DISI, DIKO and EVROKO parties, because he sent a note to all schools to be read on the occasion of the commemoration of Makarios, on January 19. Among else, the note says:

"Cyprus has passed though bloody adventures and inter communal conflict that were brought about by illegal, extremist Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot organisations that culminated in the tragedy of 1974".

The above has been seen as absolutely unacceptable by the above mentioned parties and the Minister has been called to withdraw the note. By the way, before I forget, the Union of Greek Teachers has also launched a strong progress. To his credit, Demetriou has stuck to his guns.

Hmm... They represent 60%+ of GC community? If so Akel will most probably step back? Though I too, don't agree with "...inter communal conflict that were brought about by illegal, extremist Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot organisations that culminated in the tragedy of 1974." of the note...

Which are the illegal Greek Cypriot extremist organisations to which he is referring?

It is obvious that, that part of the note written with an empathy and balanced view to satisfy the expectations of both communities but still incorrect to put all the blame on the extremists of 2 communities. We all know that there were many other Hellenes and Turks(Official and unofficial) behind them.

Minister Demetriou and AKEL spoke back at their critics today. They stuck to their guns and hopefully, this time, we will not allow the sick nationalists to take the lead.

Bananiot ... whilst you are flirting with the Turks... could you possibly find some time to answer the above?

Arent't there any Akelians to answer Oracle? I guess he is referring to EOKA-B and national front?

After President Archbishop Makarios accepted Cypriot independence in 1968, the spurned Greek Junta and the Greek Cypriot National Front/Akritas/Enosist Array/EOKA-B Deep State worked to remove him and unite the two states. That caused a rupture within the Greek Cypriot deep state, with Greek Junta servants, Nikos Sampson's and Polycarpos Georkadjis's paramilitaries facing President Archbishop Makarios's socialist ally, Vassos Lyssarides' paramilitaries and AKEL; yet, AKEL were left unarmed by the Georkadjis-controlled police and the Greek Cypriot left was 'defenceless.... incapable of resisting EOKA-B and the National Guard'.

Bananiot if you can answer for yourself, instead of allowing the (more moderate) Turks to answer on your behalf ... I still would like to know which Greek Cypriot extremist organisations were illegal ....

Insan ... you are a loyal groupie to Bananiot!

(P.S. ... those links of samarkeolog are garbage ... the guy has not even qualified yet  )
