Grivas was dead, and so it is unknown as to how he would have reacted had he been alive. He may not have necessarily supported the coup, as both he and Makarios were political allies for a long time, even though this alliance had soured somewhat. Grivas also spent time in Greece resisting and undermining the Greek Junta itself.

The majority of the teachers reacted strongly and accused Demetriou of not knowing history. They claimed, taking the cue from the Association of EOKA fighters, that EOKA B' had nothing to do with the coup, since it was disbanded after the death of Grivas in January 1973. This is a big lie and we all know that EOKA members suddenly sprung up in large groups manning key posts as soon as the coup started. In fact the sychronisation of EOKA B' with the events of July 15 1974 was quite remarkable, for a group that did not exist!
The following is the personal story of Makarios Drousiotis which shows how quickly EOKA B' ressurected itself despite being "rendered toothless", according to Kifeas.

Unbelievable, the man that tried to kill Makarios would not approve a coup against Makarios. This is as absurd as they come.

Bananiot wrote:The Grivas led EOKA B' organisation made 5 attempts on Makarios's life. By the end of 1973 Makarios had survived five plots against his life, ranging from attempts to blow him up as he drove past in his car to the shooting down of his helicopter, when he escaped from the wreckage untouched.
P.S. Grivas died on 27 january 1974. One must not forget the ecclesiastical coup against Makarios by spro-Grivas Gennadios, Bishop of Paphos.
