What I read was that they were going to give up a percentage of it (on some conditions or other) and that it was land they did not use for anything much and found expensive to maintain.

Well, they offered to return a substantial amount already and admitted they couldn't really afford to keep the Bases on. So slowly, bit by bit, they will be returned. We are patient. :D

I read where they were offering to return some of it. But from memory, it was around a third? And seem to recall there were conditions attached. I will try to find the page where I read it.

The UK does a lot of things they cannot really 'afford' to do. Doesn't mean they intend to stop doing them altogether. 'Cut backs' is what they usually announce!

rubbish! how was helping the turks divide the island GOOD?! and occupying cyprus forcing cerfues forcing searching putting tc and gc police to attack eachother .. no england has been the worse thing that happened to cyprus next to the turks and america who gave them the weapons..

yes they will reduce the line if there agreed partition no lower then 20% i think they said or offered at one point if i remember correctly.. but we will not even agree to 1% island divide..

I hope these reports are correct and that British troops will be pulled out of Cyprus, have always found it ludicrous and a huge expense, strategic this and that obviously not important as it once was. The Ay Nick base and Akrotiri being RAF I understand as this is/will be used by more than just the UK. But the rest is like a ghost town for goodness sake, complete waste.

People will lose jobs sadly but its not as if this was,nt about to happen, the talk has been going on for years it was a matter of when not if.

Mind you the Brits will go who will come next? Next time maybe ask for the rent in advance.

Excuse me for being shallow on such a matter for a sec BUT Lambros fish and chips in Dehklia are famous in these parts its always packed out mostly with Cypriots too and for those moments when you just want to indulge a place to go and watch the beautiful blue sea as you eat. Its famous in the East, we hope not to lose it.

Abdul I get the sense you are a Brit from the dark side perhaps you should worry about what you are going do next rather than what we are doing on this side of the island maybe go look for a buyer? oh no you can,t can you

Two days to come back with that one ... Such spontaneity; I must take care when crossing swords with you again.

Meanwhile, we'll keep tantalising you with EU carrots, that you shall never sample, and then perhaps you'll readdress (again) just who is riding whom!
